ā Conrad Fenris and Stiles Stilinski about Gabriel Valack and the other creatures in the closed unit of Eichen House in A Novel Approach
|
Dr. Conrad Fenris is the Chief Medical Officer at the Eichen House psychiatric hospital. He is notable for being aware of the supernatural world as a result of coming into contact with the then-younger Werewolf Talia Hale some time prior to the start of the series. When Dr. Alan Deaton arranged a deal with Fenris that involved Deaton catching and returning a former Eichen House patient in exchange for being allowed to speak with Gabriel Valack, Fenris warned him of the dangers and reminded him that there was a reason why they didn't advertise the secret wing of supernatural creatures in the facility.
Fenris was also present when the Dread Doctors infiltrated Eichen House by tricking the McCall Pack into bringing Kira Yukimura, a Thunder Kitsune whose inner Fox spirit was unbalanced, into going inside, as the large amount of foxfire she discharged disabled the facility's defenses. He was seen running for his life from the Dread Doctors, and as a result, his current status was unknown for some time; since Gabriel Valack was seen using his Illusion Casting powers to make himself look like Dr. Fenris, it remained a mystery whether Fenris was killed (either by the Dread Doctors or by Valack himself) or if he simply went into hiding.
In Season 6, Fenris was revealed to still be alive and was badly affected by the newly arrived Anuk-ite's fear-inducement powers, to the point where he began murdering all of the supernatural creatures in the closed unit of Eichen House out of fear of them bringing the end to humanity. He was just about to shoot the weakened and frozen Hellhound Jordan Parrish in the head to kill him when Lydia Martin appeared, using her Banshee scream to throw him violently against the wall behind him. His status remains unknown at this time, but judging by his condition after landing on the floor, he appears to have died from his wounds.
It was revealed at the end of Teen Wolf: The Movie (2022), Fenris turns out to be alive and was seen escorting Adrian Harris with his men to Eichen, after a deputy dropped him off.

Season 1[]
In Wolf's Bane, Jackson Whittemore went to Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital for a check-up when he began experiencing strange side-effects after being inadvertently scratched by Derek Hale while he was suffering from Wolfsbane poisoning. Dr. Fenris was the physician assigned to his encounter, and upon seeing the claw marks on the back of Jackson's neck, he wasted no time in asking the high schooler to reiterate what scratched him. Jackson, not wanting to come off as crazy by saying it looked like a Werewolf, lied and said it was "just an animal" before irritably asking if they could hurry up, because he was missing first period of school.
Fenris continued to question Jackson as part of his assessment, with Jackson admitting that he had been having difficulty sleeping due to being plagued by nightmares of a group of people trapped in a house during a fire. Suddenly noticing the strange line of questioning, Jackson asked what his dreams had to do with anything, leading Fenris to reply, "Nothing, I hope."
The doctor went on to grab a scary-looking pair of tweezers to better examine the wounds once again, and when Jackson started to resist, he insisted that Jackson stay still. Jackson began to panic when Fenris grabbed a larger, even more terrifying medical instrument and stated that he needed to dig a little deeper to see it, scolding Jackson to hold still when the young man began to squirm in pain. Just as the doctor began pulling out what looked like a plant with purple flowers from within the wound, suddenly, Dr. Fenris transformed into Derek Hale, revealing that Jackson had been hallucinating the entire time.
Once Jackson awoke from this delusion, he saw Dr. Fenris take off his exam gloves and declare that Jackson would be fine and that the scabs on the back of his neck weren't anything to worry about. Relieved, Jackson asked if he would be allowed to play in the lacrosse game that night, Dr. Fenris assured him that he could, though he did add that he wanted to start Jackson on an antibiotic. Confused by what he'd just seen from Jackson, Dr. Fenris asked if the teen had consumed any "strange herbs" recently, and when Jackson implied in the negatory, Fenris explained that he had aconite poisoning. Jackson suddenly remembered somehow that aconite was another name for wolfsbane, and Fenris seemed reassured when Jackson seemed familiar with the toxic plant.
Season 4[]
In A Promise to the Dead, Fenris met with Alan Deaton at Eichen House after the latter had caught and returned escaped Wendigo and patient Patrick Clark. In exchange for this favor, Deaton wanted a favor from Fenris in exchangeāto visit Gabriel Valack, a patient at Eichen House who was previously the chief medical director before performing trephination on himself to give himself a third eye. Fenris made it clear that, while he appreciated Deaton's help, he strongly advised against him meeting with Valack, revealing that Eichen House has a secret ward for supernatural creatures who can't control themselves or are corrupted by their power before adding that the last person who went to see Valack ended up becoming one of their catatonic patients, and that was just due to the two having a verbal conversation.
Deaton wasn't swayed, however, and elected to visit Valack anyway, as he wanted to learn more about Kate Argent, specifically her being a Werejaguar and known as "the Bone Woman," since she had performed a ritual on Derek Hale that seemed to be stripping him of his Werewolf powers and potentially killing him. Unfortunately for Deaton, he did not heed Fenris' advice, and as a result, Valack trapped Deaton inside his own mind upon making eye contact with Valack's third eye, though he did give Deaton the information he sought in the form of a vision (specifically that Kate had the power to create and control Berserkers).
When Deaton failed to respond to stimuli during the doctors' assessment, Fenris grimly advised his staff to continuing to monitor Deaton hourly for the time being before implying Deaton would have to be admitted to their facility if he did not wake up soon. That evening, Fenris, upon seeing that Deaton was still not reacting to stimuli, advised his staff that he was going to have to be moved to the sixth floor, which is presumably where the supernatural-related cases are held.
However, Lydia Martin arrived just then and insisted that they wouldn't be taking him anywhere, although Fenris did make a valid point that Lydia was not his family and therefore not eligible to make that decision for him. Lydia, knowing she could reach him, argued that they were close enough, and when Fenris retorted that they have no way of knowing if Deaton can even hear them, Lydia implied she intended to Banshee Scream to awaken him by replying, "Trust me on this-- he'll hear me." This plan ultimately worked, and Lydia was able to leave with the exhausted Deaton so they could warn the rest of the McCall Pack about Kate's plans.
Season 5[]
In A Novel Approach, after learning that the mysterious novel titled The Dread Doctors found in Tracy Stewart's bedroom was somehow connected to Gabriel Valack, an Eichen House client with a self-inflicted hole in his forehead to reveal his third eye. This led the older members of the McCall Pack to convince Alan Deaton to arrange for a meeting with Valack at Eichen in hopes of learning more about the Dread Doctors themselves, as they had been wreaking havoc throughout Beacon Hills by creating unnatural hybrid creatures known as Chimeras who were unstable and causing destruction before being killed by their creators.
Scott McCall, Stiles Stilinski, Lydia Martin, and Kira Yukimura arrived that night at Eichen House, where they eventually met with Fenris about what they planned to do. Without so much as a greeting, Fenris made it clear that he was only allowing them to interview Valack as a favor to Deaton, and that he was doing so against his better judgment, emphasizing the fact that he thought this was a bad idea. Stiles changed the subject to Valack himself and asked how they should proceed in talking to him, specifically regarding his third eye. Fenris confirmed that making eye contact with the third eye would be disastrous before adding that it would probably be best if they avoided direct eye contact with any of the creatures being held in the closed supernatural unit.
He led them to the lower levels, where the closed unit was located, but just as they were about to go through a locked door, Scott and Kira found that they were unable to move any further, causing Fenris to smugly retort, "You didn't think you were all going, did you?" He then revealed that while the entire building has Mountain Ash in it, it is the most concentrated down around the supernatural ward, which is why the young Werewolf and Kitsune were unable to enter the unit. Not even wanting to accompany Stiles and Lydia to Valack's cell, he simply gave the two directions on which room they were looking for before opening the door for them and leaving.
While Stiles and Lydia interviewed Valack, the Mountain Ash combined with the Telluric Currents that converged on the site of Eichen House caused Kira's Thunder Kitsune powers (which had already been unbalanced by the Dread Doctors' experimentation as it was) to grow out of her control, leading her foxfire to begin sparking out of her hands and body involuntarily.
Eventually, the surge of electricity inside of her became too much and she fainted, though lightning continued to generate and discharge around the hallway. When Scott touched her to ensure she was okay, the electrical shock that discharged was so strong that he was thrown backwards down the hallway. Fenris, having heard the commotion, came out to ask if Scott was okay, and Scott, at a loss for words, simply stated that something was happening, and he though Kira was unconsciously causing it. Fenris anxiously stated that they needed to get her out of there immediately, but Scott asked him how he was supposed to do that if he couldn't even touch her. Just then, the sound of the Dread Doctors' was heard, and Fenris insisted that Scott better run. Scott refused to leave without Kira, but Fenris, who had no attachment to either of them, decided he would run for his life and leave Scott to figure it out on his own.

Personality[]
Dr. Fenris is a gruff, no-nonsense gentleman whose years of being involved in the supernatural world have hardened him and ridden him of much of the empathy and compassion that initially led him into his medical profession. He was already wary of the supernatural creatures in his closed unit at Eichen House and only allowed certain individuals to go there as a special favor, such as when Alan Deaton was allowed to go there to get information from Gabriel Valack. ("A Promise to the Dead") By Season 6, Fenris was so jaded and cynical that he was easily influenced by the fear-inducing powers of the Anuk-ite, which allowed him to be manipulated into killing the majority of the supernatural creatures under his charge out of a delusional belief that it would make the human community safer. ("Raw Talent")
Fenris has also demonstrated a survivalist tendency, as he had no qualms with leaving others in danger if it meant he made it to safety, as evidenced when he fled outside of the facility, leaving Scott McCall at the mercy of Kira Yukimura's out-of-control foxfire with no assistance ("A Novel Approach") and leaving one of his orderlies to be incinerated by Halwyn's hellfire blast upon awakening. ("Said the Spider to the Fly") However, he was also shown to be a much kinder and less sociopathic Chief of Medicine at Eichen House than his predecessor, Gabriel Valack, who experimented on his patients in hopes of amplifying their powers with trephination. ("Amplification")
Physical Appearance[]
Dr. Fenris is a man in his early sixties with white skin, hazel eyes, and silvery-white hair. He typically dressed in a business clothes, typically a dress shirt (sometimes with a sweater in neutral colors), dress slacks, and a tie with his white physician's jacket over it.
Skills[]
Though Dr. Fenris was a human and thus had no supernatural powers of which to speak, he was a licensed physician who had been highly trained in human medicine, including medical and surgical procedures and medications as well as anatomy and physiology. He also seemed to have a fairly extensive working knowledge of supernatural lore, as he was able to create cells in Eichen House that used a creature's weaknesses against them, such as the cell with freezer components meant to keep a Hellhound weak and in hibernation for decades. ("Said the Spider to the Fly") He also possessed a handgun and seemed competent in its use, indicating he may have had firearms training as well.
