ā | Peter: "It's just me. Your uncle-- Uncle Peter." Cora: "Uncle Peter who killed sister Laura." Peter: "Mmm, not my finest hour, no. But, I'm hardly the only dysfunctional family member. Did Derek mention that he killed me, too? Slashed my throat, ear-to-ear." Cora: "So, that means I should trust you?" Peter: "Actually, I'm wondering if I can trust you." Cora: "You've known me for seventeen years!" Peter: "I knew you for eleven, leaving the last six unaccounted for... and I'm not particularly fond of things unaccounted." |

The familial relationship between Beta Werewolves Cora Hale and Peter Hale.
Peter and Cora were both born into the powerful and respected Hale bloodline of Werewolves. Peter was the jealous younger brother of Talia Hale, an Evolved Alpha Werewolf very highly respected in the supernatural community and leader of the Hale Pack, and he was seemingly raised alongside her children: Laura Hale, Derek Hale, and Cora, the latter of whom was the youngest.
However, in late 2004/early 2005, the Argent Werewolf Huntress Kate Argent, alongside nearly a dozen of co-conspirators, set fire to the Hale House, killing Talia and at least eight other human and Werewolf members of the Hale Family. The only four known survivors were: Derek and Laura, who were both at school when the event happened; Cora, who, believing her entire family to be dead, went on the run and ended up in South America, where she joined another Werewolf pack until she returned to Beacon Hills six years later; and Peter, whose 3rd degree burns pushed him into a coma for the next six years and who convalesced at Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital and the Beacon Hills Home during that time.
It was not until late August 2011 that Peter reunited with his youngest niece, shortly after Derek and his ally Scott McCall freed Cora and Vernon Boyd from the Alpha Pack's captivity. However, Peter and Cora's relationship became strained due to them being separated for many years and Cora learning it was Peter who killed her older sister Laura to become the Alpha. Despite this, Peter was seen caring for Cora in Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital after she was injured and poisoned with Mistletoe by Aiden Steiner and the Darach Jennifer Blake, respectively, and fought against the Alphas to get Cora safely out of the hospital. Once it became clear Cora was dying from the mistletoe poisoning, Peter taught Derek how to perform a ritual that would allow him to transfer his Alpha spark to Cora, which ultimately saved her life.
Once the Alpha Pack was disbanded and Jennifer was killed, Derek and Peter agreed to take Cora back to her former home in South America, though, on the way back to Beacon Hills, Peter and Derek were captured and tortured by the Calavera Family of Hunters, who sought a shapeshifter known as "La Loba." Assuming that they were talking about Cora, Derek and Peter did not give up her location, which led Araya Calavera to cut off Peter's right ring finger. It was revealed later on that La Loba was actually Kate Argent, whose claw wounds that she sustained from Peter had transformed her into a Werejaguar. It is presumed that Cora remains in South America to this day and it is unknown if Peter has kept in touch with her.
