ā€œ Scott: "Allison saved our lives."
Derek: "Yeah, and what do you think they're gonna do out there? Do you have any idea what we just set free?"
Allison: "You want to blame me? Well, I am not the one turning teenagers into killers!"
Derek: "No-- no, that's just the rest of your family."
Allison: "I made mistakes. Gerard is not my fault."
Derek: And what about your mother?"
Allison: "What do you mean?"
Derek: "Tell her, Scott."

The relationship between former Evolved True Alpha Werewolf Derek Hale and Hunter Allison Argent.

Allison and Derek were a pair who seemed destined to be enemies, as Allison belonged to the Argent Family of Werewolf Hunters who had been hunting families like the Hale Family for centuries. To make matters even worse, Allison's beloved aunt Kate Argent seduced Derek when he was a teenager and got him to reveal information that allowed Kate to successfully orchestrate the Hale House Fire, which killed his mother, Talia Hale (along with anywhere between seven and ten additional family members), put his uncle Peter Hale in a coma for six years due to the severity of his burns, and caused his youngest sister Cora Hale to flee to South America for nearly seven years, believing her whole family was dead. Essentially, Derek believed the Argents to be responsible for the decimation of his family, an opinion shared by Peter and Cora, as well.

The two first met at a party Lydia Martin was throwing at her house to celebrate the lacrosse team's first scrimmage, where Derek was lurking around to keep an eye on Allison's date Scott McCall, whom he knew had recently been bitten by an then-unknown Alpha and was likely going to turn into a Werewolf during that night's full moon. When Derek's suspicions turned out to be correct and Scott fled the party out of confusion as to what was happening to his body, Derek, wanting to get more information on the Argents, who had recently moved back to Beacon Hills, claimed to be a friend of Scott's and gave her a ride home in order to suss out how much she knew about her family's hunting legacy. He then surreptitiously stole her blazer and used it to lure Scott by scent into the Beacon Hills Preserve for an intervention in order to force Scott to accept his lycanthropy as his new reality.

After Derek was arrested for the alleged murder of his sister, Laura Hale, Allison became suspicious of him, as well as Scott's relationship with him, which only grew more intense when Scott and his best friend Stiles Stilinski were forced to lie and say that Derek was the "serial killer" in order to hide the supernatural world from Allison, Lydia, and Lydia's then-boyfriend Jackson Whittemore. Suspicion grew into confusion when Allison learned her family was very interested in Derek, as they knew he was a Werewolf and assumed he was in league with the Alpha wreaking havoc on the town.

The two seemed to reach a dƩtente after they had worked together (along with Scott, Stiles, Jackson, and Argent) to defeat the Alpha and Allison had learned the truth about the supernatural and what had been happening in Beacon Hills; for example, Allison assisted Derek, Scott and Stiles in their rescue mission to break the newly turned Isaac Lahey out of jail after he was mistakenly accused of killing his father. However, with Allison beginning her Hunter training with her father Chris Argent and her grandfather Gerard Argent, they quickly began manipulating her into beginning to accept their biased beliefs about shapeshifters as fact.

This came to a head when Allison's mother Victoria Argent attempted to kill her boyfriend Scott, forcing Derek to engage in a fight with her in order to save him that resulted in Victoria inadvertently being bitten; because of the Hunter Code, Victoria chose to kill herself on the night of the full moon rather than live as a Werewolf. Taking advantage of her grief, Gerard, who considered Derek to have essentially murdered Victoria, encouraged Allison to believe the same and to channel her anger into hunting; this lead Allison to decide that they needed to kill Derek, and was even okay with killing his Betas (Isaac Lahey, Erica Reyes, and Vernon Boyd) if they attempted to protect him. Allison ultimately didn't get the chance to attack Derek, but she did stab Isaac and shoot numerous arrows into Boyd and Erica when the two were captured in the woods.

However, Allison eventually came to see the error of her ways and tried to find neutral ground with Derek, admitting her mistakes in what had happened in earlier months but refusing to take the blame for Gerard's actions during the final battle (i.e. overpowering Derek and forcing him to give him the bite to cure his cancer, a part of the plan that was purposefully concealed from both Allison and Argent). Though she was eager to help the Beacon Hills Werewolves with the new killer in town, Derek was initially reluctant to accept assistance from her after the pain she had caused his pack and made his disbelief in her theory well known. In spite of this tension between them, they were ultimately forced to work together to fight in a war on two frontsā€”finding and stopping the Darach, who was sacrificing humans for power, as well as defending themselves against the Alpha Pack, who sought to recruit both Derek and Scott. Though they were hardly considered friends, they were cordial to one another in their missions to protect their loved ones and town from these supernatural threats.

In the second half of Season 3, after Derek was able to speak with the spirit of his mother, Talia, and got a new perspective on things, he seemed to become more open to working with Allison and her father Argent, trusting them to have his back and vice-versa. Though Derek and Allison were still not close at any point, Derek was seen to be affected by Allison's death, using it to give him the strength to fight back against the Nogitsune and his stolen Oni and ultimately succeed, as well as becoming good friends and allies with Allison's father, Argent, supporting him in continuing Allison's code, "We protect those who cannot protect themselves."

The two would not reunite until 2026, when the newly-resurrected Allison, who had no recollections of her packmates, was brainwashed and persuaded by the recently-freed Nogitsune into killing Derek, Scott and the rest of the supernaturals in the McCall Pack. Allison tracked Derek down to Beacon Hills High School, where he was helping his son Eli when the latter sustained a sprained ankle. Though Derek did overpower Allison without harming her, he was struck by an arrow that removed a good part of his throat's skin, causing him to lose a good amount of blood, and he would have been killed had Liam Dunbar not intervened. Once Allison recovered her memories thanks to Scott and Lydia's actions, she helped Derek, their packmates and allies in vanquishing the Oni and she could only watch in horror as Derek was incinerated along with the Nogitsune at the hands of Jordan Parrish, who needed someone to keep the Nogitsune restrained. She was present during the memorial service organized to honor his sacrifice and she agreed with Scott to take Eli to their new home in Los Angeles, with Scott implying that they were considering adopting the youngest Hale.

Throughout Teen Wolf[]

In Wolf Moon, Derek followed Scott McCall to the high school party being thrown by Lydia Martin at the Martin House in order to make sure the newly-bitten teen didn't expose himself as a Werewolf during his first Full Moon, and he watched as Scott and his date, Allison Argent, danced together on the back patio. When Scott began to transform, just as Derek feared, the older Werewolf watched as Scott, overwhelmed and not knowing what was going on, rushed off and frantically drove himself home, leaving Allison behind. Wanting to ensure Allison got home safely in case Scott's feelings for Allison caused him to come back for her after he transformed, Derek introduced himself as a friend of Scott's and offered to drive her home; this also gave him the opportunity to try to feel out how much Allison knew about her family, as he was well aware of the Argent Family's centuries-long legacy as Werewolf Hunters.

Before fully transforming, Scott was informed by his best friend Stiles Stilinski that Derek had taken Allison home from the party and became furious, coming to the (incorrect) conclusion that Derek was the Werewolf who had turned him and was using Allison as bait, leading him to jump out of his bedroom window before using his new superhuman senses to track her scent into the Beacon Hills Preserve. Once there, he found Derek alone and quickly realized that Derek had stolen Allison's jacket and used it to lure him there instead. When Scott demanded to know where Allison was, Derek assured him that she was safe, though he added, "from you" to make it clear that he believed Scott was currently the biggest threat to Allison due to his out-of-control state. Their conversation was then cut off when they were approached by a trio of Hunters led by Allison's father, Chris Argent, forcing them to flee.

In Second Chance at First Line, at school, Scott was talking to Allison when he realized that the blazer that Derek had stolen from her in the previous episode to lure Scott into the woods during his first full moon was hanging in her locker. He quickly asked her where she got it, and Allison simply shrugged and stated she was assuming that Lydia had returned it to her after leaving it at the party, as she knew her locker combination, but Scott knew the truthā€”Derek had broken into her locker in order to return it.

Scott, concerned about Derek's intentions regarding Allison, especially following the revelation that her father, Argent, was one of the Hunters who had attacked them that night, began interrogating her about what happened when Derek took her home and what they talked about. Allison, assuming Scott was being unnecessarily jealous, remarked that they really didn't say much before becoming so uncomfortable that she excused herself from the conversation, claiming she had to get to class.

After school, Scott made his way to the Hale House to confront Derek about what he was doing and demanded that Derek leave Allison out of their current issues, arguing that she didn't know anything about the supernatural. Derek, not believing this, questioned Scott on how he could know this for sure and mocking him for thinking he suddenly knew everything after a week of being a Werewolf on his own. He went on to insist that Derek was only trying to look out for Scott before discouraging him to play in the upcoming lacrosse game, as his lack of control over his transformations threatened to out him (and, by extension, Derek) as Werewolves in front of Scott's family, friends, and Hunters like the Argents.
