ā Deucalion and Scott discussing Scott and Malia's plan to learn how to fight blind to defeat the Anuk-ite in Broken Glass
| ||
The relationship between Alpha Werewolves Scott McCall and Deucalion.
Deucalion and Scott's relationship began at the start of Season 3, when Deucalion, who had heard rumor that Scott had the potential to be an incredibly-rare True Alpha, decided to travel to Beacon Hills with the intention of recruiting Scott and Scott's ally, the newly ascended Alpha Derek Hale, into joining his Alpha Pack. Although Deucalion began enacting his plan at the end of Season 2 by capturing Erica Reyes, Vernon Boyd, and Cora Hale in order to force Derek into joining their ranks, paving the way for Scott to join as well, Scott and Deucalion did not actually meet for the first time until the Season 3 premiere, Tattoo, in which the two ran into each other in an elevator at Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital.
Scott did not learn Deucalion's true identity until Unleashed when Deucalion prevented Ethan and Aiden from attacking him and Isaac Lahey in retribution for a prank the two played on the twins. Deucalion's plans for Scott were soon revealed when they once again ran into each other in the elevator at the apartment complex where he and the Argents lived, as Deucalion informed him that he wanted to see what he was truly made of and whether he had it in him to kill an Alpha to become one. Deucalion continued his plans to force Scott to join the Alpha Pack even as the Darach, Jennifer Blake, sacrificed trios of humans with certain characteristics to gain the power necessary to defeat him.
When Scott consulted Marin Morrell, Deucalion's Druid Emissary, on how to defeat him, she informed him that Deucalion sought to recruit him because he believed that having a True Alpha in his ranks would put him one step closer to having the perfect pack; she also stated that Deucalion both coveted Scott and felt threatened by him, leading him to decide that if Scott wasn't willing to join his pack, he would force Scott to kill to destroy his potential to become a True Alpha so that no one else could share in his power.
However, when Deucalion witnessed Scott's ascension to True Alpha as he broke through the barrier of mountain ash surrounding Jennifer, he realized just how special Scott was and killed Jennifer himself so that Scott wouldn't be at risk of losing his newly gained status. He was doubly impressed when Derek and Scott made the decision to let Deucalion go free, reminding him that Talia Hale believed him to be a man who sought peace and stating that they hoped he could be that man again before threatening to come after him if he went back to his corrupt and violent ways.
This seemed to leave quite the impression on Deucalion, as he later returned to Beacon Hills at Scott's behest in Season 5B when Scott heard that Theo Raeken was looking for him in hopes of using his power and knowledge to fight the Beast of Gevaudan. Deucalion then allowed himself to be captured by Theo and his Chimera Pack, allowing him to give them false information and turn the members of the pack against Theo (in the same way Theo did to turn the McCall Pack against Scott) while pretending to want revenge against Scott in order to win Theo's trust. With Deucalion's help, Scott and his pack were able to defeat Theo and the Beast, though Deucalion's whereabouts are currently unknown.
Deucalion continued to help Scott and his pack and they called for his assistance once again in dealing not only with Tamora Monroe and Gerard Argent's growing Hunter Army but also with the ancient shapeshifter Anuk-ite that had escaped from the Wild Hunt's captivity and was scaring the human population of Beacon Hills into turning against the supernatural. When the Anuk-ite was revealed to possess the power to turn everyone who made eye contact with him into stone, Scott and Malia were both trained by Deucalion in how to fight without their eyesight and just when Scott and Malia seemed to be making progress, Deucalion was shot by several Hunters from Monroe's Army. He gave enough motivation to Scott and his packmates for them to take down the two threats as he knew that they were the only ones who could do it before he sadly passed away surrounded by his former enemies-turned allies, much to the devastation of everyone, especially Scott.

Throughout Teen Wolf[]
In Tattoo, Scott was in the elevator at Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital, trying to find Isaac Lahey's room, when he was joined by Deucalion, who appeared to Scott as a human blind man wearing sunglasses, using a cane to feel his way around. Deucalion politely asked him to push the button for the second floor, which Scott had already pressed, and the two stood in awkward silence until the elevator doors opened to their destination. Scott was just about to rush out when Deucalion asked him for help in guiding himself out, and before he could decline, Deucalion placed his hand on his shoulder and squeezed it, forcing Scott to reluctantly lead him down the hallway. As he did so, he sighed and drooped his head, as he was in a hurry to find Isaac before his accelerated healing ability drew suspicions from the hospital staff.
Later that evening, when Scott and Stiles Stilinski uncovered the Alpha Pack symbol painted on the front door to the Hale House ruins, Derek Hale had no choice but to admit that a pack of Alphas was in town and that they had captured Vernon Boyd and Erica Reyes, whom Derek, Isaac, and Peter Hale had been trying to locate for the last four months. When asked how an Alpha Pack even worked, Derek informed Scott and Stiles that the pack had a leader named Deucalion.
Meanwhile, at Beacon Hills High School, a mercenary named Braeden who had rescued Isaac from the Alphas and was trying to get in contact with Scott to warn him about the incoming danger, fought against the rest of the members of the Alpha Pack (Kali, Ennis, Ethan and Aiden) until was incapacitated. Once she had fallen to the ground to nurse her injuries, Deucalion approached her, leading Braeden to reveal that she knew he feared Scott and "who he would become." Deucalion tried his best to appear unfazed and pointed out that while he was aware of Scott's potential, he was taking the advice of someone he knew in dealing with the threat; namely, he planned to have Derek take care of Scott for him, implying that one of his plans was to have Derek kill Scott as part of his initiation into the Alpha Pack if Scott refused to join them himself.
In Unleashed, Ethan and Aiden, twin members of the Alpha Pack, began to attack Scott and his close friend Isaac Lahey in retaliation for pranks that the two (with help from Allison Argent) had played on them. Suddenly, they were interrupted by Deucalion, who forced them to stop and silently punished them by lashing them both across the face with the small blade at the end of his cane. The twins then somberly followed Deucalion out of the school in a submissive manner, indicating the level of authority Deucalion held over them. When Isaac looked over at Scott with concern and asked him who the man was, Scott realized to his surprise that he was Deucalion, the Alpha of the Alpha Pack.
In Frayed, Scott, who had just learned about Allison's role in helping them trap the wild Boyd and Cora during the last full moon in Fireflies, warned her against getting involved with the Alpha Pack, describing them as more dangerous than anything they had faced at this point in time. Afterward, he got into the elevator in the hallway outside the Argent Apartment, where he found Deucalion waiting for him. Scott flicked out his claws in anticipation of a fight with the Alpha, but Deucalion just chuckled and advised him to "put those away," remarking that he would have to be blind, deaf, and quadriplegic in order for Scott to be a threat for him.
After a moment, Deucalion rescinded his earlier comment, conceding that he could tell by Scott's heartbeat that he feared him but was controlling it, which meant he could potentially rise to the occasion and become an Alpha by killing one. Scott insisted that he wasn't like Deucalion because he didn't need to kill people, to which Deucalion reminded him that sometimes, people are put in the position where they have to kill one person in order to save another. Scott, visibly frustrated, asked Deucalion if threatening him was the reason why he was there, but Deucalion replied that he was there because he lived in the building, describing the apartment complex as great and with very friendly neighbors. Finally, Scott asked Deucalion what he wanted, and Deucalion responded that he wanted to see what Scott is made of before the elevator doors opened on the ground floor, forcing Scott to leave so that other tenants could enter.
Immediately after this confrontation, Scott went to Derek's loft to inform Derek of what he just learned, though he was shocked to find that Peter, Cora, and Boyd were also at the apartment with Derek as well. Scott was also surprised to learn that the Hale Pack already knew that Deucalion and the Alpha Pack were living in the Argent's apartment complex, as Boyd and Cora followed Ethan and Aiden home one day after school. When Scott pointed out that this meant that Deucalion wanted them to know where they lived, Peter remarked that it was more likely that they just didn't care either way. Scott then noticed that they seemed to be looking at schematics for the building and asked them what they were doing, forcing Peter to admit that "the schemers were scheming" and that they were planning a preemptive strike against Deucalion and the Alpha Pack before Derek insisted that Scott would be helping them.
Scott and the Hale Pack then got into the details of the plan, as Derek informed them that Deucalion and the Alphas lived in the penthouse apartment right above Allison. When Scott seemed exasperated by the fact that the others wanted to kill the Alphas first and stated, "Why is the default plan always murder? For once, can someone try to come up with something that doesn't involve killing everyone?", Peter stated that, while he believed Scott to be "blandly moral," he didn't disagree with his assessment that it was not a great plan. Derek argued that they could sit back and wait for Deucalion to make the first move against them, but Scott maintained that they couldn't beat a pack of Alphas.
Cora interjected that this was why they only planned to go after Deucalion, with Boyd adding that by cutting off the head of the snake, the body would die. Unconvinced by the Hale Pack's assessment of the situation and unwilling to risk any of his friends getting hurt in the coup d'etat, Scott secretly arranged a meeting with Deucalion to try to come up with a diplomatic solution to their problem, though he was unable to talk Isaac out of coming with him. Scott and Isaac then arrived at the Abandoned Mall where they had arranged their meeting, only for it to be revealed that the Hale Pack, expecting Scott to try to talk sense into Deucalion, had followed him there to take advantage of the fact that the Alpha was alone. Unfortunately for them all, Deucalion had brought the rest of the Alpha Pack with them as a back-up, and a large-scale fight ensued.
The Hale Pack was quickly incapacitated by the Alphas, who turned to Deucalion for their next move. Deucalion ordered Derek to kill Boyd, who had been badly injured by Ennis, and when Derek was reluctant to do so, Kali exasperatedly asked if Deucalion was serious about Derek, who she described as a "kid" who was an Alpha to "a couple of useless teenagers," though Deucalion looked directly at Scott and stated that some had more promise than others in a hint that he knew about Scott's potential to become a True Alpha. Just as Kali, wanting to force Derek's hand, gave him an ultimatum (either Derek would kill Boyd, or she would kill Cora), Allison arrived and began shooting flash-bang arrows at the Alphas, leading Deucalion to order everyone from both packs to cover their eyes, not wanting them to suffer the same fate as he did with regards to his blindness. This distraction gave the Hale Pack and Scott to get their wounded out of harm's way before reengaging in a fight that ultimately ended with both Ennis and Derek presumed dead after they tumbled over a ledge and fell three stories before landing on the escalator below.
In Currents, Scott was preparing to leave Beacon Hills High School to go to the Argent Apartment and find out what Allison had learned about Alan Deaton's disappearance, Scott began hearing the sound of a metronome and followed it to the music room, where he found Deucalion waiting for him. Deucalion used the metronome as a metaphor for the news that Deaton had been captured by the Darach "speeding up his life's tempo" before offering to help him manage the situation. He listened to Scott's heartbeat and remarked that his heart was pounding in anger and offered to give him exactly where Deaton was so long as Scott stole Deucalion's cane out of his hand.
Scott, desperate for answers, began fighting against Deucalion in an attempt to snatch his cane in the process, but despite his fast reflexes and acrobatics, Deucalion was the better fighter and stabbed Scott in the shoulder with the blade hidden at the end of the cane. Deucalion declared Scott's attempts to beat him to be "impressive" but insisted that he wasn't the one "slashing up innocent people, praying to ancient gods, gathering herbs, or whatever it is Druids are supposed to do" but did concede that he was a part of a pack who wanted Derek Hale dead. He then informed Scott that he had a difficult choice to makeāhe could either save Deaton, or he could save Derek. Before leaving, Deucalion gave Scott one last clue, urging him to "let the current guide him.
Despite Scott splitting up from Stiles Stilinski, Lydia Martin and Cora Hale in hopes of saving them both, Kali and the twins defeated Derek and killed Vernon Boyd afterward. Fortunately, Scott was still able to save Deaton with Sheriff Stilinski's help, but upon freeing Deaton from his bonds, the veterinarian informed him that, while Deucalion would like Derek to join his pack, his true goal was to recruit Scott due to the recently revealed news that Scott had the potential to become a True Alpha.
In The Overlooked, Scott found himself at odds against Deucalion during what he believed to just be a rescue mission. When Jennifer Blake finally revealed herself to be the Darach who was sacrificing trios of humans to gain the power necessary to end the Alpha Pack, she also revealed that she was the one who had poisoned Cora Hale with mistletoe and claimed she was also the only one who could save her. This led Scott, Jennifer, Derek and Stiles to head to Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital where Cora had been admitted, joining Peter Hale there as the hospital was being evacuated due to a severe thunderstorm.
However, upon their arrival and their retrieval of the unconscious Cora, the group was attacked by Ethan and Aiden on Deucalion's orders, forcing the group to flee and hide from the Alphas. Deucalion then took Scott's mother, Melissa McCall, as a captive in order to force Scott to hand over Jennifer in exchange for her safe return. Unfortunately, since Jennifer also had Stiles' father Noah Stilinski captive and was refusing to tell them his location without a guarantee that she left the hospital with her life, Scott was stuck in an impossible situation.
Scott, who had kept the fact that Deucalion wanted him as a True Alpha in the Alpha Pack a secret from his friends due to his lack of interest in doing so, knew that Deucalion would not harm Melissa because of this motivation, so he decided to try to get Derek and Jennifer safely out of the hospital in hopes that it would save Cora and Noah in the meantime. This put them against Kali and the twins in a complex game to get out of the building without being harmed by the Alphas. Kali questioned Deucalion on his decision to let Melissa go before they were given Jennifer, but Deucalion insisted that Scott was an investment that he was trying to allow to mature before questioning her on her decision to let Jennifer live all those years ago, when Kali was supposed to kill Jennifer, her former Druid Emissary, as part of her initiation into the Alpha Pack.
Ultimately, Jennifer double-crossed the group by knocking Derek out and taking Melissa, who had been released by Deucalion as an act of good faith, as her second guardian sacrifice along with Stilinski, leaving Deucalion in the perfect position to manipulate Scott into joining him, promising him his assistance in saving Melissa and Stilinski in exchange for Scott helping him take out Jennifer. Despite Scott's best friend Stiles' pleas that they would find another way, Scott ended up accepting Deucalion's deal and leaving with the Alpha.
In Alpha Pact, Scott continued to work alongside Deucalion and the rest of the Alpha Pack in hunting down Marin Morrell, the Druid Emissary to the Alphas and to Deucalion's original pack, whom they believed knew more about what Jennifer was planning than she let on. The pack had split up in the Beacon Hills Preserve, with the Ethan and Aiden going one way, Kali going straight, and Deucalion and Scott taking the final path so that Morrell was surrounded.
They ended up chasing her into a clearing, where, without further options, she used her Druid powers to create a perfect circle of Mountain Ash around her, preventing any supernatural creature from crossing it to harm her, as proven when Ethan and Aiden merely bounce off of the barrier.
Deucalion wasted no time beginning his interrogation of Morrell, prefacing his accusations by stating that she knew they would come for her for her betrayal. Morrell smiled smugly and retorted that she always knew the Alphas were suspicious of people like herself and Jennifer for the things they could do, leading Kali to assure her that they were aware, just like they were aware that Morrell had hired Braeden to save Isaac Lahey from them in Tattoo. Morrell confirmed this without argument and stated that she was doing what she's always doneāmaintaining the balance of Nature. She also denied knowing anything more than they did about Jennifer, her plans, or where she could possibly be, though the Alphas (save for Scott) did not seem to believe her.
Morrell, concerned that Scott would choose to join Deucalion's cause, urged the young potential True Alpha to return to his friends, as he didn't belong with the Alpha Pack, but Deucalion simply cut her off and argued that Scott was more than capable of making his own decisions. Having had enough of Deucalion's tyranny, Morrell made her stand by pointing out that no one could make their own decisions without all of the information, and turned back to Scott to ask him if he knew of all of Deucalion's misdeeds over the years in his pursuit of his "narcissistic and psychotic perfect pack." Before anyone else could cut her off, she then revealed that Deucalion, not Derek, had been the one to kill EnnisāMorrell's brother Alan Deaton had managed to heal Ennis of his injuries from the fight at the Abandoned Mall, but Deucalion killed him himself because he knew it was needed to motivate Kali to go after Derek, who would then pave the way for Scott to join their ranks.
The other Alpha Pack members and Scott looked at Deucalion in shock and disbelief, but Deucalion continued to lie and shrugged off her comments as a desperate woman begging for her life. Morrell encouraged the other Alphas to learn the truth for themselves, which was the last straw for Deucalion, who immediately uncapped the bottom of his walking stick and threw it like a javelin at Morrell, passing effortlessly through the mountain ash barrier and embedding itself in her shoulder, forcing her to fall out of her circle. The Alphas instantly descended upon her, eager to get their revenge, but Scott was quicker than all of them and managed to get to them first before growling at them to back off; even more miraculously, the Alphas listened to Scott and stood down.
Scott quietly assured Morrell that he had no intention of letting them kill her, but if she knew something about Jennifer's plans, then she needed to tell them what was going on. Seeing no other option, Morrell instructed Scott to find the Nemeton, as Jennifer and her captured Guardians would be found there. A short time later, after Morrell was apparently let go to tend to her wounds, Scott briefly split up from Deucalion and the Alphas in order to perform the Ssurrogate Sacrifice Ritual to locate the Nemeton and their parents by committing ritual suicide in their parents' place.
In Lunar Ellipse, after barely surviving the ritual (having been clinically dead for sixteen hours), Allison Argent, Stiles Stilinski, and Scott McCall finally managed to get an idea of where the Nemeton was, having each been to it once in the past without them knowing. The beginnings of the McCall Pack then debated the virtues of sending Scott back to Deucalion, as neither Allison, Isaac, nor Scott trusted the older Alpha, but Scott was still convinced that they couldn't beat Jennifer without his help. Upon trying to get Alan Deaton to talk some sense into Scott, the veterinarian and Druid admitted that he didn't think it was such a bad ideaāwhile he absolutely shouldn't trust Deucalion, he could use him as the bait to lure Jennifer into a trap, as sometimes desperate circumstances require one to align with those who would normally be enemies.
They decided that Scott would return to Deucalion after they stopped by the Stilinski House and Argent Apartment to get clothes as a source of Noah Stilinski and Chris Argents' scents, though Allison, Isaac and Scott were briefly tied up at the apartment when Special Agent McCall cornered them to interrogate them about their parents' absence. Scott finally was able to meet back up with Deucalion at Look-Out Point in the Beacon Hills Preserve, where Deucalion remarked that the young wolf was "cutting it pretty close."
He asked where the others were, and Deucalion cryptically stated that they were "occupying themselves with other pursuits," not wanting to explicitly say that the twins and Kali were sent to Derek's loft to make good on their ultimatum to kill Derek Hale for not joining the Alpha Pack, having sacrificed his Alpha power to save his sister Cora Hale. Scott was surprised that it would just be the two of them against Jennifer, but Deucalion simply smiled and stated that he would be surprised by what a great team they would make. Before setting off for the final battle, Scott instructed Allison and Isaac to find Stiles and locate the root cellar under the Nemeton, promising to keep Jennifer away from there and busy long enough to get their parents to freedom. When Isaac questioned him on how they were going to do this, Scott vaguely replied, "I have a plan."
Meanwhile, at Derek's loft, the twelve-sacrifice-empowered Jennifer managed to easily kill Ethan and Aiden's merged form as well as Kali, which she presented as a gift to Derek in hopes of encouraging him to fight with her against Deucalion. When Derek demanded that Jennifer stop talking to him like a politician and trying to recruit him to her cause, Jennifer instead had him consider another causeāScott's, as Deucalion and Scott were by now working together, and Jennifer could either sacrifice the three parents she kidnapped or she could have one living Guardian in Derek, insisting that despite Derek only being a Beta, she only needed him to get Deucalion in the right place at the right time to use the lunar eclipse in her favor. Despite his better judgment, Derek agreed to help Jennifer, only in hopes of saving Scott by doing so.
Deucalion allowed Scott to enact his plan the way he wanted to, watching curiously as Scott filmed a video and texted it to Jennifer; in the video, he was standing in the Abandoned Distillery, where it all started, where he dared her to come find them. Derek and Jennifer soon arrived together, and when Scott became apprehensive at fighting his mentor and ally, Deucalion, amused, remarked on how very American it was to see brother fighting against brother. Deucalion then quickly got to the point of the standoff, transforming into his monstrous Alpha form before taunting Jennifer, "Are you ready? Hmm? Did you gather your herbs? Pray to your ancient gods and your oak trees? Slit a baby's throat, perhaps? Should we show them why you needed to sacrifice nine innocent people, just to face me? Or is it twelve, now?"
Deucalion and Jennifer then immediately started to battle one another while Derek and Scott watched in shock. Despite Jennifer's best efforts and collected powers, she could barely get a hit against the Augmented Alpha, and soon Deucalion got the upper hand and incapacitated her. He then pushed her towards Scott and demanded that he prove himself by killing her, arguing that she was trying to kill his parents and friends with the thunderstorms throughout Beacon Hills, and that if he killed her, then it would all be over. Jennifer, not wanting to die, argued that if Scott did this, it wouldn't end with her, because it was Deucalion's nature to make people kill everyone they loved.
Not wanting Scott to be swayed, Deucalion reminded him that his loved ones were dyingāhis parents, his best friends, and their parentsāand that he needed to become the Alpha he was meant to be, a killer, in order to save them all. Scott, unmoved, insisted that they were not dead yet, and when Deucalion scoffed and asked if he really thought his friends would be able to save them, Scott smirked and retorted that his pack would do so. Deucalion, not liking this answer, tried to force Scott to do it against his will by using his Alpha Roar to make him shift and attempting to force his claws to slash Jennifer's throat, leaving Scott with no choice but to deploy the flash-bang arrowheads he stole from the Argents, remembering that Gerard Argent had said that despite Deucalion's eyes being damaged, he wasn't always blind, causing his extra-sensitive Werewolf eyes to be temporarily blinded by the flash.
Jennifer then became smug when the lunar eclipse finally went underway, stripping all three Werewolves of their powers for the duration and allowing her to viciously assault Deucalion with her powers until his head had been smacked bloody against the cement. She was about to give him the killing blow when Derek got the idea to trick her into healing his eyes, arguing that he needed to see the cost of his ambitions she suffered due to her mutilated face. Jennifer fell for it and did just that, but the energy required to do so weakened her enough that she was unable to continue to fight.
Like Morrell, Jennifer resorted to surrounding herself with a Mountain Ash barrier to prevent any of the three Werewolves from attacking her, believing that it would allow her to use her powers to finish off the storm so that the guardians (Stilinski, Argent, and Melissa) as well as their rescuers (Allison, Isaac, and a late Stiles) would die in the collapsed root cellar and give Jennifer the rest of the power she needed to beat even Deucalion as a "Demon Wolf."
Unfortunately, Jennifer did not expect Scott to focus all of his willpower and energy on pushing through the mountain ash barrier, as the force of will necessary to do so caused him to ascend to True Alpha status, much to the shock and awe of both Derek and Deucalion. Jennifer demanded to know how he did that, and Scott confirmed he was an Alpha now before urging her to stop the storm herself or he would do it for her, regardless of what it would do to the color of his eyes. Deucalion, stricken by the purity of Scott's sacrifice and ascension, seemed to have converted to Scott's way of seeing things and slashed Jennifer's throat for him to ensure that Scott retained his Alpha status.
Afterward, Derek and Scott confronted Deucalion, with Derek stating that his mother Talia had once referred to him as a "man of vision," and admitting that they were hoping he could be that man again if they let him go. Scott went on to warn him that if they learned he was not taking advantage of his second chance, they could come find him, and having his eyes back wouldn't matter, because he "wouldn't see them coming." Deucalion seemed to truly change his views on life as a result of Derek and Scott's willingness to do whatever it took to protect their loved ones and started back on the path to redemption.
In Codominance, after Scott McCall had returned home from rescuing Kira Yukimura and her mother Noshiko from the Skinwalkers of Shiprock, he had fallen asleep with Kira when he was suddenly awakened by his returned girlfriend. She informed the sleepy Scott that Liam Dunbar and Mason Hewitt were there and needed to speak with them, and the two got straight to the point, which was that they knew who Theo Raeken and the rest of the Chimera Pack were afterāDeucalion.
In The Sword and the Spirit, Theo Raeken, having just returned to the Dread Doctors' Operating Theater with the Werewolf-Garuda Chimera Belasko's Garuda Talons, which he got from the Werecoyote The Desert Wolf in exchange for luring her daughter Malia Tate to her, found his packmates Corey Bryant, Josh Diaz and Tracy Stewart, all of whom displaying wounds from their efforts in capturing Deucalion, who was hooked up to the same Wolfsbane substance IV drip that the Dread Doctors placed on Liam Dunbar back in Ouroboros. After setting Belasko's Talons on a table, Theo showed disappointment in the members of his pack regarding their prowess in order to take down one blind Alpha Werewolf.
This comment made Deucalion reveal that he was re-blinded a little while ago as the Darach Jennifer Blake's healing appeared to be temporary, which he labelled a "parting gift from [his] time with Scott McCall". Theo replied he and Scott were working out some issues, namely Theo's attempt to have Liam kill Scott and Scott being forced to work with Theo to hunt the recently-resurrected Beast of Gevaudan; conveniently, this also seemed to be the exact reason why Theo was searching for Deucalion, who described the Beast as history's most vicious and most famous Werewolf. His expression turned to both exasperation and incredulity as he asked the Chimera if he thought he was just going to show him how to steal its powers without a fuss. Believing Deucalion was open to negotiation, Theo asked him what he wanted in return and Deucalion growled "I want his eyes on the tips of my claws. I want the eyes of Scott McCall.", pleasing Theo, who accepted the deal.
In Lie Ability, Deucalion having a secret deal with Scott was hinted at, judging by how easily the Chimera Pack had managed to capture him and how little he was trying to escape their captivity, instead pretending to be entirely weakened by the Wolfsbane IV drip inserted into his arm. He then began trying to turn Hayden Romero against Theo by pointing out that he had left her out of the plan to break Lydia Martin out of Eichen House for a reason before then insinuating that Theo's plans to use Belasko's Talons were ill-advised at best and claiming that they would ultimately kill him due to the Dread Doctors infusing them with a frequency specific to Belasko himself. He likened the result of Theo attempting to use them as a donated organ being rejected by the person receiving it as a transplant, which he knew Hayden would understand due to her own kidney transplant years earlier and struggles to avoid organ rejection. He then outright encouraged Hayden to leave so that she could help Liam, knowing full well that by doing so, she would be helping Scott as well.
In The Beast of Beacon Hills, Deucalion finally put his and Scott's plan into action by demonstrating his strength in front of the Chimera Pack and breaking out of the IV drip after having pointed out that neither Hayden nor Corey Bryant were at their meeting. He then taught Theo how to steal the powers of others, explaining that it involved first taking the victim's pain, then their life force, and finally their power, all in that order, demonstrating by breaking Theo's arm and then absorbing the pain of the injury.
A short time later, when Josh refused to try on the Dread Doctor Mask, as his electromagnetokinetic powers ensured that he would be the only one to survive the process, Theo put Deucalion's lesson to the test and stole Josh's powers, killing him in the process and allowing him to wear the mask himself. While wearing the mask, Theo saw a flashback to the Beast of Gevaudan's first life (when he was known as Sebastien Valet), right when Marie-Jeanne Valet killed him with her special pike, which was meant to be a hint as to what was needed to defeat the Beast in the current day. Theo then immediately told Scott and the rest of the McCall Pack about this memory-vision, which Deucalion intended as part of his plan with Scott, though obviously Josh's death was collateral damage and not meant to be part of the process.
In Apotheosis, Theo was approached by Deucalion, Scott and Liam, following his failure to take the powers of the true Beast Sebastien Valet. Seeing them together led Theo to realize Deucalion and Scott had formulated a plan to break up his Chimera Pack and prevent him from stealing the Beast's powers. Deucalion smugly confirmed this as he removed his sunglasses and closed his eyes before opening them, revealing he was lying about being blinded again. Horrified, Theo figured out not only Deucalion's blindness was a lie, then the claims he made about Belasko's Talons not helping him take the Beast's powers were also fake, which Deucalion also confirmed. Before Theo could recover from the attack he sustained from the Beast, Deucalion snapped the Chimera's neck, both as punishment for his actions against the McCall Pack and as payback for Theo shocking him earlier with the electromagnetokinetic powers he stole earlier from Josh Diaz.
Deucalion wished Theo good luck his broken neck before he attempted to leave with Scott and Liam so they could save their friend and packmate Mason Hewitt, who was turned into the Dread Doctors' sole successful Chimera and was currently trapped inside Sebastien's body, but they were found by Argent and his father Gerard Argent, who shot Deucalion in the stomach, enraged by the alliance Scott and Deucalion made with each other. What Gerard did not expect was that his son had also formed an alliance with Scott and his pack as he tossed them the Surgeon's sword-cane, which was also the pike that Sebastien's sister Marie-Jeanne Valet used to kill him back in the 18th century. Both Gerard and Argent aimed their guns at each other, allowing Scott and Liam to go save Mason before it was too late, leaving Deucalion to nurse his injury.
In Werewolves of London, Scott McCall and Malia Tate, devastated from the shooting attack to his house orchestrated by Tamora Monroe and Gerard Argent's Hunter Army and how it injured Scott's parents Rafael McCall and Melissa McCall and their packmates Mason Hewitt and Lydia Martin, called Deucalion and summoned him to the McCall House, where the former Alpha Pack leader insisted he no longer had the murderous tendencies he used to possess. Not deterred, Scott reminded Deucalion that he once told him he would kill anything that crossed his path, forcing Deucalion to admit he had changed from his sadistic and narcissistic personality and advised them to try it as well. Scott retorted that Gerard hadn't changed at all and summed up what was currently happening, namely that there was a creature terrorizing people and scaring them into becoming killers and members of a Hunter Army, whose members were murdering their fellow supernaturals without remorse and wouldn't stop until every single one, present company included, was killed.
He went on to explain that Gerard had a map with all of the Nemetons located in the world and was planning to use them to achieve his global genocide. Scott persisted that Deucalion could out-think him and read him but the formerly blind Alpha stated that the young True Alpha would always be an "outsider" with unique strategic abilities before insisting that his years of taking lives had passed. He turned to leave, only for Malia, who was not satisfied with his now-pacifist attitude, to challenge him into a fight and threaten to slash his throat. Malia attempted to slash him but the older Alpha easily dodged it and was shown leaning his back against Malia's, surprising her as he announced he had been studying Bagua, a martial art that takes the path of least resistance and essentially uses their opponent's violence against them. Malia was incredulous that Deucalion could beat her without fighting but he insisted she would beat herself if she didn't stop. Malia attempted to attack him one more time, only for Deucalion to dodge it again and she fell to the ground in defeat.
When Deucalion proved that he could protect himself, Malia questioned him about the people who did not know Bagua, and what would happen if they had their own eyes stabbed out in the same manner that blinded Deucalion a decade earlier. Deucalion referenced how the war between Hunters and supernaturals turned him into the vicious, power-hungry monster he used to be and confessed that he was far more afraid of losing his soul than he was losing his eyesight again. He began to leave, though he assured them that he wasn't outright rejecting their plea for helpāhe would be happy to offer his guidance, but this was a fight the McCall Pack would have to endure on their own. His first piece of advice was that they needed to lower their standards when it came to allies they were recruiting, and when Scott sarcastically retorted that he thought he already was by talking to Deucalion, the older Alpha simply chuckled in amusement before replying, "Lower than me," leading Scott and Malia to realize he was suggesting they go to Peter Hale.
In Broken Glass, Scott and Malia called Deucalion and asked him for his help in teaching them how to fight while blind, since the newly merged Anuk-ite possessed the power to turn people into stone just by a moment of eye contact with the creature. They met with him in the center of a large shipyard full of metal shipping containers, where he informed them that he couldn't teach them how to fight blind in only twenty-four hours, as the people trained to teach the blind how to walk without their sight needed one-hundred and twenty hours of training before they could even be certified.
Scott insisted that they had to do this, because defeating the Anuk-ite was their only way to stop the war between themselves and the members of Monroe's Army. Deucalion brought up his main questionāif the Anuk-ite could turn people into stone, why weren't they running for their lives? In response, Scott bravely declared that the McCall Pack didn't run from their problems, especially if it meant the destruction of their hometown, which caused Deucalion to smile proudly and remark that Scott now sounded like a real Alpha before agreeing to help them to the best of his ability.
Deucalion reminded them they were already at a disadvantage due to the fact that they still actually had their sight, demonstrating the human reflex to open one's eyes to gain as much sensory information as possible when a loud noise is heard or when one is afraid in general by throwing a rock at a nearby metal storage container, startling Malia so much that her eyes opened in a flash. She admitted that he was right, and that it would obviously be harder than they originally believed, but Scott maintained that it wasn't impossible and insisted they continue working. Deucalion passed them blindfolds and stated he would teach them four concepts to help them navigate the area without their eyesight by using their other superhuman senses: echolocation (identifying and following sound waves), thermoception (perceiving changes in temperature through their sense of touch), equilibrioception (identifying changes in balance using all one's senses) and proprioception (perceiving changes in pressure, again with one's sense of touch). He encouraged them to put on the blindofolds, which they did.
Deucalion began his echolocation lesson, revealing that since Werewolves and Werecoyotes possessed a sense of hearing that was one hundred times more heightened than a regular human's, they could pick up natural reflected sound and use it to locate the source of the sound by following the echoes. He banged his cane against one of the containers, which led him to tell them to hear the echoes and attempt to discover where he was located, focusing his hearing like a weapon while doing so. Deucalion left the area and continued to bang his cane through many other containers and the ground while Scott and Malia attempted to follow him and find him. When they were out of the area, Deucalion stopped making any kind of noises and surprised them by attacking from behind. After removing his blindfold, Scott, clearly embarrassed, questioned him how dead they were; Deucalion, disappointed and unimpressed, replied "Quite."
He moved on to thermoception, stating that humans regularly detect temperature changes through the skin, but the eyes of Werewolves are sensitive to heat as well, demonstrating by flashing his Alpha eyes at the two, who were blindfolded and standing back-to-back. Since their eyes wouldn't help them pick up heat, they had to detect the changes in temperature through their skin, just like regular humans. Deucalion ordered them to face each other before demanding Malia to try to hit Scott. Malia was less than willing to punch her boyfriend, but Deucalion insisted that if she wanted to learn to fight blind, she had to prove it by "kicking Scott's ass."
It was clear that Scott was not a huge fan of this plan either, but before he could protest further, she managed to land a punch right in the gut. Scott, not picking up the skill as quickly, asked what he was supposed to do, and Deucalion impatiently retorted that he should defend himself, as though the answer was obvious. Scott tried to hit Malia with a gentle right cross, but she was able to duck to miss it before once again landing another punch, this time in the jaw. When Scott groaned in pain, Malia immediately apologized with a sheepish expression, but Deucalion exasperatedly reminded her not to apologize and instead hit him again. She tried to do another right cross, but Scott was prepared this time and managed to duck, causing her fist to painfully make contact with the brick column behind him. Clearly pained by the terrible performance he was witnessing, Deucalion groaned, "Yeah, I didn't think it was possible, but I'm actually starting to wish I was blind again."
They switch tactics, with Scott, blindfolded, trying to find and come after Deucalion. As the latter circled around the former, Deucalion instructed him to stop looking for him and instead use his sensesālisten for his footsteps, sense the rise and fall of the temperature around them, feel the pressure under his feet. Scott tried to do as he was told, but Deucalion came around him and kicked him in the stomach, knocking him backward, advising him that he was now dead... again.
Scott eagerly got to his feet and insisted they go again, and when Malia suggested that they should maybe try something else, Scott argued that there wasn't anything else, as he couldn't beat Gerard with an entire army behind him. Malia reminded him that they're still afraid of them, which Scott insisted was the problemāthey don't know them, they don't want them in Beacon Hills, and they don't even want to look at them, but despite that, Scott didn't think that fear was real.
Deucalion gently brought up the fact that the fear may actually be truly their own, and that the Anuk-ite had nothing to do with it, adding, "What if this is what people are really like? I mean, could it be that all this creature really does is give people permission to act on whatever awful truth lies within them?" Scott shook his head and disagreement, stating that not only could he not believe that, but he didn't want to, with Malia eventually piping up that she didn't want to, either.
This caused Deucalion to get an idea, and he instructed Scott to lose the blindfold and instead close his eyes before informing him that they were about to practice again, only this time, he had no plans of holding back. "I'm gonna come at you for real," Deucalion continued. "You asked me here because you think I know how to fight? I don't." Deucalion then circled around so that he was facing Scott, revealing that his Werewolf eyes were blazing bright red as he added, "I know how to kill people."
He then roared at Scott before lunging at him with his fangs and claws out and the end of his cane uncapped, revealing the dagger at the tip. Deucalion quickly got the upper hand, and at one point, Malia even whispered to Scott to "hit him!", but suddenly, Scott's body started to use Deucalion's knowledge on its own, allowing him to dodge a blow before grabbing Deucalion's cane and using it to gain leverage so he can throw the older Werewolf down on his back on the ground. Deucalion chuckled and stated that Scott may just survive this, and Scott opened his eyes before reaching out to pull Deucalion up to his feet.
Suddenly, Lydia rushed toward them, crying that none of them were going to survive this as Peter trailed behind her. When Scott asked her what she was doing there, Peter urgently informed them that Monroe and the rest of the army were on their way there, and armed heavily to boot. Before they could even process this news, machine gun fire was heard coming toward them, all of it aimed directly at Deucalion, who was shot multiple times in the chest and torso before collapsing to his knees and then falling face-first onto the ground. The others, who had ducked behind the various columns, dumpsters, and shipping containers for cover, look at Deucalion's weak form in horror.
In The Wolves of War, after a long, protracted battle that ultimately turned in the McCall Pack's favor due to the arrival of Derek Hale and Stiles Stilinski from their respective travels, the group rushed toward Deucalion, who had managed to drag himself into a seated position near a couple of wooden palettes. Scott kneeled in front of him, with Deucalion grabbing his hand with his own as blood trickled from his mouth.
Scott immediately knew that Deucalion wasn't going to survive his injuries, and Deucalion knew the same thing, which is why he made it a point of stating in a weak voice, "Gerard... what he f-f-fears most... He can't... beat you..." Deucalion laughed despite the circumstances, as he seemed to have complete confidence that Scott and his pack would be able to overcome all of their obstacles, and added, "...And he knows it."
Having run out of air due to his injured lungs, Deucalion's breathing quickly stopped, and his eyes went glassy, leading Scott to realize that he had finally passed on after his hand went slack and slid off of his own. Scott sighed with tears in his eyes at having lost his former-enemy-turned-mentor in this manner, and he and Malia agreed that this was really happeningāMonroe had started an all-out war against the supernatural.Trivia[]
- Before Deucalion was blinded, he seemed to be an Alpha who was very similar to Scott, as he advocated for peace and tried to avoid combat or bloodshed due to the risk of further losses on both sides.
- Deucalion was so star-struck when he saw Scott manage to defeat Jennifer Blake without killing her that he began to return to his more compassionate and empathetic ways of doing things.
