Elijah "Eli" Hale is the 15-year-old son of Derek Hale, the grandson of legendary Alpha Werewolf Talia Hale, the nephew of Laura and Cora Hale, the grandnephew of Peter Hale, and the first cousin once removed of Malia Tate.

Early life[]

Aside from his status as Derek Hale's son, the majority of Eli's life prior to the events of the Teen Wolf: The Movie remains unknown, namely the identity of his mother. However, there was an evening when Eli was very young and was playing in the floor of his house when a pack of wild coyotes broke into the Hale residence. Derek scared them away by shifting into a Werewolf and unleashed a roar powerful enough to shake the whole house. Unfortunately, he scared and traumatized Eli to the point that he spent the majority of his time in his room and refused to talk to his father for several days. It was this event that created Eli's refusal and lack of interest in accepting his supernatural status and learning in how to control his abilities.

Personality[]

When Eli was first introduced, he appeared to be similar to other teenagers in his age with a rebellious streak in him, which was evidenced by his few rides in Stiles' Jeep, despite not having license or the keys to the vehicle. He also demonstrated reluctance and lack of interest in accepting that he was born with his father's lycanthropy and learning in how to manifest his powers. However, despite his continued doubts and frustration over his inability to transform, his doubts were slowly shredded thanks to the guidance of both Derek and Scott and his confidence increased to the point that he joined his father and Scott in taking down the Nogitsune upon completely shifting into his wolf form. He was heartbroken when Derek decided to sacrifice his life and was immolated to death along with the Void Kitsune. However, his opinions towards his future changed for the better when Sheriff Stilinski gave Eli the keys to Stiles' Jeep and he was taken in by Scott and Allison as their ward.

Physical Appearance[]

Eli is a medium-height, lean young man with long, wavy brown hair, blue-green eyes and olive skin. He dresses like most teenagers in high school, such as flannel shirts, sweaters, jeans and boots.

Powers and Abilities[]

Eli possesses the common powers of a Beta-level Werewolf, including Superhuman Strength, Speed, Agility/Reflexes, Durability and Senses, along with an Accelerated Healing Factor, the ability to Absorb Pain From Living Beings and animal instincts. Like all of his kind, he is capable of ShapeShifting his features into those of a wolf, including Glowing Gold Eyes, Fangs, Claws, a ridged brow, large siderburns and pointed ears.

Abilities[]

  • Mechanical Knowledge: Eli demonstrated moderate understanding of how to hot-wire vehicles, which he proved when he managed to hot-wire and start Stiles' Jeep for a few rides, despite not having obtained the keys from the Sheriff.

Weaknesses[]

Eli possesses the typical weaknesses of Werewolves, including Wolfsbane, Letharia Vulpina, Electricity, Mistletoe, the Modified Canine Distemper Virus, Rowan Wood/Mountain Ash, and ultrasonic/subsonic frequencies. He is also vulnerable to the different moon phases-- full moons and supermoons, along with intense emotions like anger or stress, may cause him to lose control over his Transformations whereas Lunar Eclipse leaves him and his fellow Lycanthropes powerless.

Etymology[]

  • Eli: Eli is a name with origins from the Hebrew Bible. It may be a given masculine name, as it came to be used as a given name among the Puritans in the 17th century and was by them taken to the American colonies. Alternatively, it may be used as the unrelated abbreviation of other Hebrew names, like Elijah, Elias or Eliott. It means "elevated" or "high," with the "El" meaning God.
  • Hale: The surname Hale is derived from a geographical locality, "at the hale," i.e. "hall" (either as a proprietor or servant at a residence there). It is also derived from the Old English healh, meaning "nook" or "hollow." In Northern England, the name often has a specialized meaning, either denoting a piece of flat alluvial land by the side of a river, or as a patch of dry land in a fen. It is also sometimes a habitational name from any of the several locations in England that shares the same name. Additionally, it could also have origins as a Middle English personal name derived from either of two Old English bynames, Haele ("hero") or Haegel, which is akin to the Germanic Hagano meaning "hawthorn." The name Hale was first recorded as De Halys in 1130, and it is said that the earliest Hales were related to Saint Edward, which was how the family's coat of arms had their arrows pointing downward.
