The relationship between True Alpha Werewolf Scott McCall and Thunder Kitsune Kira Yukimura
Scott and Kira first met in their high school history class in Season 3B's Anchors, where they both took notice of each other right away, though it may have taken a bit longer for Scott to act on his feelings. The two slowly became friends throughout Season 3B, with their friendship developing into something more. However, they did not officially begin a romantic relationship until Season 4's Muted, due to confusion over the state of their relationship and Scott still grieving the death of his first love, Allison Argent.
However, from then on, Scott and Kira remained in a solid relationship for the duration of Season 4 and Season 5, with Scott first admitting that he loved Kira in Condition Terminal. Even when Kira felt compelled to leave Beacon Hills to go to Shiprock, New Mexico in order to learn what was wrong with her inner Kitsune spirit, Scott and Kira remained together; when Scott helped rescue Kira and Noshiko from the Skinwalkers in Shiprock, Kira was so relieved that she told Scott that she loved him for the first time.
Their relationship ended when Kira made the difficult decision to return to Shiprock to train with the Skinwalkers, as she had no idea how long she would be gone but knew she would have to stay however long it took to regain control over her immense powers. Though Scott has since moved on and begun a romantic relationship with Malia Tate in the three years since she left, they remain friends and allies to this day.

In Anchors, Scott and Kira first met when her father, their history teacher Ken Yukimura, introduced her to the class in an embarrassing fashion, causing Scott to catch notice of her. After class, Kira watched Scott curiously in the hallway, frowning in confusion when Scott's best friend Stiles Stilinski quickly shuffled Scott into a nearby classroom, not knowing that Scott had lost control of his Werewolf transformation and needed to hide to prevent himself from exposing his supernatural identity.
Later that afternoon, when Kira approached Scott, Stiles Stilinski, Allison Argent, Isaac Lahey, and Lydia Martin at lunch after having overheard them talking about Scott, Stiles, and Allison's recent near-death experience, Scott informed the group that her name was Kira and that she was in his history class before inviting her to tell them more about what she knew about Bardo. Kira explained that Bardo was a series of progressive states between life in death during which time the person could be visited by peaceful and wrathful deities, causing hallucinations, among other symptoms. Scott and the others became very alarmed upon learning that the last of the states was death.
In More Bad Than Good, Kira nervously re-introduced herself to Scott before history class and informed him that she had done more research on Bardo for him, since her explanation the previous day was "all over the place," in her words. Scott, appreciative of the gesture, told her that she didn't need to go through the trouble, and when she searched her backpack for the research, she found that she had forgotten it. Just then, Mr. Yukimura came up behind her with the stack of printouts and loudly stated that she had "forgotten the research she did for that boy she likes," once again embarrassing her in front of Scott, though Scott simply blushed at the news that she liked him and smiled at her.
Kira watched as Scott helped his best friend Stiles, who had just had a panic attack in front of the class, out to the locker room to calm down. When the bell rang, she realized that both Scott and Stiles had left their backpacks behind and, wanting to do something nice for Scott and his friend, grabbed the bags to bring them back to the boys. However, what she didn't know was that Stiles' backpack contained a doll that he had stolen from the site of the car crash that killed the Werecoyote Malia Tate's adoptive mother and sister, and Malia, who had been in full coyote form for the last eight years, was so eager to get it back that she broke into the school and chased Kira into the locker room.
Kira hid behind a row of lockers, where she was eventually found by Scott, who knocked the row of lockers over to scare the coyote away and save Kira from being attacked. Afterward, Scott used his Werewolf hearing to eavesdrop on Kira and Ken talking, smiling to himself when he heard Kira say that she was trying to do something nice by bringing Scott and Stiles their bags, since she thought that doing something nice would help her make friends, leading Scott to make a mental note to be friendlier to Kira in the future.
In Galvanize, Scott overheard Kira talking to her father, Ken Yukimura, in his classroom during lunch. While Kira and Ken were talking, Kira mentioned her difficulty making friends since they moved to Beacon Hills, which led Ken to remind her that she was a beautiful girl and that someone would eventually take notice. When Kira brought up the fact that thus far, the only person who had shown notice was a rabid coyote, Ken laughed and suggested that she date the coyote, though Kira insisted that she didn't want to date and simply wanted to make a few new friends, which made Scott determined to befriend her.
Ken seemed to have the same idea, because that evening, Ken returned to the Yukimura House to inform Kira that he had invited Scott to dinner to thank him for saving Kira from the coyote attack in the previous episode. Kira was initially mortified, especially when she learned that Ken and Kira's mother, Noshiko, had made sushi to impress Scott, who had never had it before, but Kira quickly warmed up to Scott as she taught him to use chopsticks. While they ate, Scott and Kira made pleasant small talk with Ken and Noshiko about the Yukimura Family and Noshiko's Japanese heritage until Scott accidentally mistook his wasabi for guacamole and burned his mouth, effectively ending the family dinner.
However, afterward, Kira ordered a Hawaiian pizza and brought it up to her room so she and Scott could eat it together, and when Scott expressed his relief regarding food he knew was "safe," Kira laughed and pointed out that they should have started him out on California rolls before they started to eat together, leading Scott to realize how much he was starting to like her. After they ate, Kira walked Scott out to his motorbike and informed him that she thought he was a nice guy, and not just because he saved her from being eaten by a coyote. When Scott asked her what else he did, she smiled and reminded him that he remembered her name right after she started attending Beacon Hills High School.
Scott seemed to be smitten by Kira, but before he could get on his motorbike and leave, William Barrow, a convicted mass-murderer who was obsessed with children who had "glowing eyes," appeared and knocked him out with a crowbar before capturing Kira. Scott awoke to find Stiles and Lydia, who had learned through their own investigation that Barrow was being manipulated somehow into killing Kira, standing over him. Thanks to a Banshee premonition experienced by Lydia, they realized that Barrow had taken Kira to the electric substation where he used to work prior to his arrest.
Scott, as the only one with active supernatural powers, split up from Stiles and Lydia and eventually found Kira tied up to a chain-link fence that surrounded a transformer. Barrow was about to electrocute Kira with a live wire when Scott appeared, and though Kira yelled at him to run, Scott continued to try to save her, only to be backhanded by Barrow using the live wire. Since the electricity had weakened his powers, Scott could do nothing but shout at Barrow that Kira wasn't the one he wanted, which ultimately did no good. To Scott's shock, when Barrow put the live wire to Kira's face, she discharged an enormous amount of ice-blue electricity from her body, which both accidentally killed Barrow and caused a city-wide blackout due to the damage to the transformers.
In Illuminated, Scott and Kira sat next to each other on the couch in Sheriff Stilinski's office at the Beacon County Sheriff's Station, along with Stiles and Lydia, who were on either side of them. Kira remained quiet while Scott and Stiles were questioned by Special Agent Rafael McCall about what happened with William Barrow. Since Agent McCall was not aware of the supernatural, the boys, who wanted to protect both Kira's newly revealed supernatural identity and their own part in the supernatural community, purposely talked in circles to confuse and annoy him.
After Agent McCall got the gist of the public story, he turned to Scott and Kira and asked what the two of them were doing before Barrow knocked Scott out and captured Kira. The two answered simultaneously, with Scott saying "Eating pizza" and Kira saying "Eating sushi," both of which were technically true. The two tried to get their answers straight, but ultimately switched responses until they eventually amended their replies to "Eating sushi and pizza." When it became clear that Agent McCall didn't believe their stories, he turned to ask Sheriff Stilinski what he thought about it, to which the Sheriff stated that he ultimately believed that, luckily for Kira, the kids found themselves at the right place at the right time.
Agent McCall, still skeptical, asked Kira if this was really what happened, and after being given a strong look by Scott, Stiles, and Lydia, she agreed that they had told the truth about everything that had happened before asking if she could have her phone back, though Agent McCall said they needed to keep it for evidence. Sheriff and Agent McCall then sent the kids home, due to the fact that it was a school night.
The next day, Scott and Stiles were at their lockers, talking about the previous night's events, when Scott saw Kira arrive and tried to leave to talk to her, only for Stiles to hold him back. Scott insisted that he needed to discuss what happened last night with her, but Stiles reminded him that since someone left a coded message for Barrow telling him to kill Kira, they needed to wait until they figured out whether or not she was "another psychotic monster that's going to start murdering everybody," insisting that Scott should avoid any and all interaction with her.
When Scott wondered aloud if Kira was a Werewolf like him, Stiles pointed out that Kira was able to walk through "1.21 gigawatts of electricity," which meant that she wasn't anything like him. All the while, Kira, who was getting her books out of her locker, tried her best to avoid Scott as well, still trying to wrap her mind around what had happened with Barrow, including the fact that a strange aura surrounds her whenever she takes a photo of herself with flash photography.
At lunch later that day, Scott found Kira sitting alone by herself while she ate her packed lunch in the hallway and, despite Stiles' insistence that he stay away from her, he decided to sit down next to her. He waited for a moment for her to say something, and when she stated that she didn't want to talk about what happened the previous night, Scott respected her decision and pulled out his pre-calculus book as he asked her if she wanted to instead talk about their test the upcoming Friday.
After a moment, Kira took the book from him and closed it before turning so she could look him in the eyes and asking him if he had his phone with him. When Scott nodded and pulled his phone out, she informed him that she was going to show him something that no one, except for Barrow, had ever seen, and asked him to take a photograph of her with the flash on. After Scott did what he was told, he was shocked to see the fiery red, orange, and gold aura around her, leading Kira to explain that she had no idea what it was, but that it started showing up a couple months ago, and that it only happens when the flash is on. She also added that she didn't know why, but that somehow, Barrow knew about it, and he used her own phone to take photos of her to prove it. Scott, realizing that this was why Kira wanted her phone back from the police the previous evening, assured her that he would help her get it back since she was afraid of what would happen if any of the police officers or FBI agents would think if they saw the photos.
That evening, Scott and Kira met up with Stiles outside of the Sheriff's station, where Stiles gave them cloned keycards that would get them into the perimeter doors, the evidence room, and Sheriff Stilinski's office, though he warned them that he would be unable to help them if they got caught due to the fact that Agent McCall had his father under examination for impeachment. In the middle of their conversation, Kira pulled Scott aside for a moment to ask him if he had told Stiles about the photos, which led Scott to assure her that he simply told him that she had naked photos of herself on her phone that she didn't want anyone else to see, which even Kira agreed was a good idea.
Scott and Kira then sneaked into the station, which was understaffed due to the blackout that Kira had caused the night before that had yet to be fully repaired at this time. They managed to make it into the evidence room without being discovered but were made even more anxious by the revelation that Kira's phone had died at some point since it was taken by the police. Kira wanted to just steal it, but Scott reminded her that they would know someone had taken it since it had already been logged as evidence.
Fortunately, they found a phone charger and managed to use Agent McCall's Macbook to charge it enough for Kira to delete the photos, though it forced them to stay longer than expected and caused Stiles to go against his earlier statement that he couldn't help them by jumping out of his Jeep and distracting Agent McCall long enough to let them get away unnoticed. After they met back up with Stiles out in the parking lot, both Scott and Kira were ecstatic to have completed their mission without being caught, a reaction that seemed to endear Kira to Stiles as well as to Scott. Afterward, Scott seemed disappointed at the thought of taking Kira home, as did Kira, which eventually led Scott to ask Kira if she wanted to go to a party that Danny Mahealani was throwing at Derek Hale's loft, which they believed to be abandoned.
Upon arriving at the party, Scott and Kira were excited for Stiles when Caitlin, a former acquaintance of Stiles', appeared and kissed him on the cheek, and supported him as he left to go chase her down. Afterward, Scott noticed that Kira was getting shoved around by the crowd of people and took her by the hand so they wouldn't get separated, an act that made Kira smile bashfully before thanking him for everything that he had done for her.
Unfortunately, Scott then caught the eye of Allison, his ex-girlfriend, across the room and shared a supportive smile, which Kira interpreted as Scott not being interested in her. She quickly let go of his hand and allowed herself to be transported away by the flood of people in the loft, though it took Scott a moment to notice. When he realized that Kira had left while he was sharing a silent look with Allison, he allowed his red Alpha eyes to come out so he could track her down more easily, which was when he found, much to his surprise, that his Werewolf-vision allowed him to see the true shape of Kira's aura, which was in the form of a fox around Kira's body.
At some point during the party, Scott and Kira reunited and eventually found their way up onto the roof of the apartment building, where they sat on a nearby stoop. Kira pointed out that Scott had gotten body paint on his face, and when he was unable to wipe it off himself, she laughed and licked her thumb before cleaning him up, leading Scott to laugh and say that she "mom'd him." After a brief awkward silence, Kira worked up the courage to ask Scott how he was so okay with everything that had happened in the last day or so since she believed the photo that she showed him would have sent anyone else running for the hills. Scott assured her that it didn't look that bad to him, and when Kira insisted that she looked like a demon from hell, he reiterated that he saw something different, that the aura seemed to be protecting her like armor and that it looked nothing like a demon. Kira, curious about this response, asked him what it looked like to him, causing Scott to admit that it looked like a fox, which seemed to trigger something in Kira's memory.
After Scott heard Derek roar for help and caught wind of the commotion back downstairs at the party (though he did not yet know that five Oni demons had arrived and had performed tests on Derek, Lydia, and Ethan), he and Kira went back to the loft and were shocked to find everyone not associated with the McCall Pack rushing out of the apartment. Scott stood protectively in front of Kira as the Oni began approaching Aiden, and when they completed their test and turned toward Kira, both Derek and Scott began attacking the Oni, though they were not strong enough to defeat them. Scott was forced to partially transform into a werewolf to fight them off, inadvertently exposing his supernatural identity to Kira, who looked shocked but not scared by this revelation. Once the sun had finished rising, the Oni were forced to evacuate, leaving Scott, Kira, and the others to wonder what they were and why they were there.
In Silverfinger, Scott took Kira home on his motorbike the morning after the eventful party at Derek's loft, feeling awkward about the fact that she had seen him partially-transformed into his Werewolf form and assuming that she was angry like Allison Argent and Melissa McCall had been when they learned what he was. However, upon arriving at her house, Kira simply asked for confirmation that Scott was a Werewolf and that the rest of his friends were supernatural or clued-into the secret as well, which Scott gave her. She then curiously asked him if she could see his full transformation, and he reluctantly checked to make sure no one was watching before showing her his wolf-face. Instead of disgusted, Kira was actually awestruck by the sight and gently touched his cheek with her hand, surprising Scott. Afterward, she flopped into her bed and thought about what had happened at the party.
That day at school, Scott met up with Stiles, who had been up all night wrestling with the realization that the note William Barrow had written on the chalkboard instructing the reader to kill Kira was in his handwriting. After Stiles told Scott what he had discovered, Scott had a difficult time believing Stiles could want to hurt Kira and took note of his exhausted appearance, leading Stiles to admit that he hadn't been sleeping well lately. Scott instructed Stiles to take the day off school in order to rest and recover and presumably set off to find Kira to explain their plans for the day.
Before school let out, Kira sneaked over to Ethan and Aiden's motorcycles and removed their spark plugs so they were unable to follow the two as they rushed to the McCall House, reasonably certain that the Oni would be returning that night for either Scott or Kira. Once there, the two began locking the doors, deciding to wait in Scott's room until his mother Melissa McCall returned to activate the Mountain Ash barrier built into the floorboards. Scott assured her that they were going to be okay, leading Kira to ask if he meant himself or her.
When Scott insisted that he meant both of them, Kira pointed out that she didn't want him getting hurt because of her and brought out a book on Japanese mythology from her book bag to reveal that she believed she was a Kitsune, a shapeshifting fox spirit. She flipped to a page where a bright white fox was creating a massive amount of ice-blue electricity, and when Scott remarked that it looked like what she had done the other night at the Electric Substation, Kira explained that it was called foxfire and that it was a fire or lightning that was created when a Kitsune rubbed their tails together, though she took care to assure Scott that she didn't have any tails. Scott went on to ask if she was scared, and Kira stated that she wasn't at the moment, though she should probably leave soon because she told her parents that she would be back by dinner. Scott leaned closer to Kira and suggested she tell them she was going on a date with him so she could stay longer, but before they could kiss, they heard the front door open and assumed it meant Melissa was home.
Unfortunately for them, once they made it downstairs, they found that it was actually Scott's father, Special Agent Rafael McCall, waiting for them, as he had found surveillance footage on his laptop that revealed Scott and Kira had broken into it the previous night (when they broke into the Sheriff's station's evidence room to delete the pictures of Kira's Kitsune aura off of her phone). When Rafael demanded an answer, Scott angrily informed him that he wasn't his father, he was simply a gene donor who didn't get to boss him around. Just then, Melissa returned home and, confused by the sight in front of her, asked what was going on. Before anyone could do so, however, the sun set, causing two Oni demons to appear in the living room as it darkened. Rafael assumed they were burglars and demanded to know who they were, only for one of them to stab him in the shoulder with its ninjato.
Suddenly, Derek Hale and Ethan and Aiden Steiner appeared in their Werewolf forms and began fighting the Oni, and were soon joined by Scott while Melissa dragged Rafael's body out of the crossfire. After some conflict, the wolves were eventually able to get the Oni out of the house long enough for Melissa to activate their supernatural security system, creating a Mountain Ash barrier that confirmed Kira was supernatural when she tried to cross it and was zapped in the hand by the mystical energy. Though Ethan and Aiden questioned her motives, Derek confirmed that Kira was a Kitsune and guessed that she didn't know what kind she was or how to conceal her aura.
After Scott talked to Allison Argent and learned that the Oni were seeking out a Nogitsune, or Void Kitsune who they believed was possessing someone and that they had no intent to harm anyone so long as they didn't get in the way of their tests, Kira wondered aloud if she might be the dark Kitsune in question. Scott argued that he had experience with many "bad guys" over the years and that he could tell Kira wasn't one of them, even after Kira suggested that, as a shapeshifter and a trickster spirit, she could be trying to deceive him without realizing it, but Scott maintained that she was innocent. When the Oni finally broke through the barrier, Scott insisted that everyone let them test him and Kira without conflict, which they did. It was when the spiritual creatures branded the two of them with the jiko kanji that they finally confirmed that neither Scott nor Kira were possessed by the Void Kitsune they were hunting.
In Riddled, Kira attempted to talk to Scott at school, but Scott, who was exhausted from having spent the entire night searching the town for his best friend Stiles (who had a nightmare and sleepwalked into the woods and proceeded to get lost) and who was worried about him, didn't hear her call out to him. Derek then approached Kira and apologized to her on Scott's behalf, assuring her that Scott was just preoccupied, but that he was willing to help her instead.
In Letharia Vulpina, Scott had just arrived at Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital with Derek to find Kira in front of the building, using her Kitsune powers to siphon the electricity from a live wire. Derek and Scott watched in awe as Kira's eyes glowed bright orange as she made the live wire harmless to those around them.
The next day at school, Scott and Kira met up with each other so that Kira could explain what she had learned about the Nogitsune. She began by saying that Kitsune are mischievous tricksters, and as a result, they are not much concerned with the concepts of right and wrong, nor do they understand it. Scott wondered if this meant that the Nogitsune was just doing this "for the hell of it," but Kira also learned that Void Kitsune are also easily offended and can react very badly to betrayal, leading the two to assume that someone really offended him for him to be acting this way.
At cross-country practice after school, Kira tapped into her Kitsune superhuman speed to the point where she was running much faster than even the fastest human runner on the team, Danny Mahealani. Just then, Scott came rushing toward her from the opposite direction, catching her in the air before they could collide into each other. When Kira excitedly asked him if he saw how fast she was running, Scott assured her that he could feel it before informing her that they needed to find the others due to a booby trap planted by the Nogitsune while he was in control of Stiles Stilinski's body.
Later that evening, Kira overheard her parents talking about Noshiko's Kitsune tails and how many she had broken to summon the Oni to Beacon Hills in order to defeat the Nogitsune. Upon learning her mother was behind the appearance of the Oni in town, she immediately ran to the Beacon County Sheriff's Station to warn Scott and Stiles of this fact. When she arrived, she found the station in shambles after a bomb explosion orchestrated by the Nogitsune went off, and Scott and Stiles had just witnessed a deputy dying whom Scott attempted to save with his pain absorption powers. Kira insisted that they had to go because the Oni were on the way, and the three got into Stiles' Jeep to rush to the Beacon Hills Animal Clinic, which was their only Mountain Ash-fortified location remaining.
Unfortunately, the Oni arrived shortly after they did, forcing Scott to separate from Kira and Stiles in order to buy them time to get safely inside. Though Kira was meekly tossing objects at the Oni at first, the sight of Scott being stabbed in the stomach with their ninjato emboldened her to once again tap into her superhuman physical attributes, such as super strength and agility, so that the three could make it safely into the clinic. However, just as Kira was about to remove the sword from Scott's abdomen to facilitate the healing, Stiles backhanded her so hard that she went flying backwards and was knocked unconscious. It was then revealed that the Nogitsune was still in control of Stiles, who began torturing Scott until Alan Deaton arrived and incapacitated him with an injection of letharia vulpina.
In Echo House, Kira was waiting for Scott at the McCall House when he returned from his meeting with Allison, Lydia, Ethan, and Aiden to discuss how they were going to steal the Shugendo Scroll from an armored truck driven by Beacon County Sheriff's Department deputies. Scott wasted no time in asking her what she was doing there, and when she informed him that she wanted to help, Scott advised her that doing so might not be the best idea. Kira assumed he was referring to the fact that her mother Noshiko was revealed to be the one summoning the Oni, but Scott actually meant that most people who end up helping him and the pack usually end up getting badly hurt.
Kira, undeterred, assured him that she had been practicing, excitedly explaining how she had picked up the use of the sword "crazy fast" as she reached for the ninjato she stole from one of the Oni during their last battle. However, she was a little too exuberant in her retrieval of the sword and nearly sliced Scott in the face with it as she unsheathed it; when he asked her if she was sure about that, Kira sheepishly apologized for the scare before showing off her new skills. Scott was so impressed by her new display of superhuman agility, speed, and intuitive aptitude of combat that he granted her permission to help without further debate.
Later that night, Scott and Kira joined Allison, Lydia, Ethan, and Aiden at the Beacon County Sheriff's Station, where they were staking out the building to get ready for the transfer of Katashi's belongings to federal lock-up, among which was the Shugendo Scroll they sought for answers on how to exorcise the Nogitsune without killing Stiles. Allison, who was watching through the parascope on her crossbow, informed Kira that she was up, and the young Kitsune used her newly accessed superhuman speed to race over to the truck and place one of Argent's GPS trackers on the wheel well so they could follow it. Though Kira cut it a little close, she managed to get away without drawing any attention to herself.
Unfortunately, when Deputy Parrish went to advise the driver that they were ready to head out, he found the man passed out over the wheel with a bloody head wound, implying he had been knocked out. The team watched in horror as Katashi's associate, Kincaid, did the same to Parrish before opening the truck and beginning to sort through its contents himself. Kira surreptitiously climbed on top of the truck while Scott and Allison confronted Kincaid themselves, with the latter aiming her crossbow at him. Scott demanded he hand over the prosthetic finger that held the hidden Shugendo Scroll, and when Kincaid laughed and asked why he would do such a thing, Allison reminded him that there was a suitcase with $150,000 in it from the Argent gun deal. This only amused Kincaid even more, as the scroll was valued at $3 million, leaving little chance of anything but a fight breaking out.
Kira made the first move by jumping down from the top of the truck and wrapping her legs around his neck to try to incapacitate him, but due to his large, muscular size, he was able to easily throw her off of him before quickly backhanding Allison across the face and remarking that it seemed negotiations were over. With Allison and Kira down for the count, the others watched as Scott and Kincaid sparred for a few moments until the older man mockingly asked Scott where his ALpha strength was. Just then, the twins arrived and made quick work of Kincaid, incapacitating him easily. Though Ethan and Aiden wanted to kill him to prevent him from coming after them again, Scott, Kira, and Allison stood firm and insisted that they were there to save a life, not end one, which seemed to earn Kincaid's respect.
In The Fox and the Wolf, Scott had just met with Malia Tate, a Werecoyote he had previously saved who brought him two objects she and Stiles had found embedded in a wall with the body of the Nogitsune's Corporal Rhys—a katana in a scabbard, and an old photograph from World War II where a young woman who strongly resembled Kira was posing with the Nogitsune's former vessel, a medic in the U.S. Army.
As a result, Scott summoned Kira to his house in order to ask her about the objects and what she knew about them. She looked at the photo first and also noticed the uncanny resemblance to herself before remarking that it had to be her grandmother. He briefly explained how he had come upon these items, particularly that the wall Stiles and Malia knocked down in Eichen House's basement had a jiko kanji carved into the drywall, the same symbol the Oni tattooed on them after they were checked for possession by a fox spirit. He then gently suggested that this whole situation originated with her family, including her grandmother and mother. Before they could speculate further, Kira's phone buzzed, and she looked at it and became horrified when she realized her mother was contacting her to let her know that her father had been attacked by the Nogitsune and had given her instructions on what to get before meeting them at Beacon Hills High School.
Upon Scott and Kira's arrival at the school, Noshiko, who was kneeling next to the collapsed Ken as he breathed painfully, demanded to know if Kira brought it, leading Kira to pull a vial out of her pocket and hand it to her. When she asked her mother what it was, Noshiko replied that it was reishi, which caused Kira to roll her eyes and sarcastically retort that she was giving her dad "magic mushrooms." Fortunately, the mushrooms worked, and Ken was able to cough up the fly the Nogitsune had used to partially possess and influence him. Scott had a hard time believing that Stiles was capable of this, but Noshiko harshly explained that Void Stiles had wanted the last kaiken (the daggers that physically represented her Kitsune tails) and that she had kept it on her person ever since she heard that the Nogitsune had retaken control over him and caused them to flee from Eichen House.
Kira, having had enough of the secrets and lies, demanded that Noshiko tell her and Scott everything before Scott sheepishly handed the elder Kitsune the photograph Malia gave him. Noshiko was shocked to see it and asked him where he got it, but Kira was more interested in the story behind it and asked if it was Noshiko's mother. Noshiko sighed and paused for a long moment before admitting that it was actually her in the photo. Scott skeptically pointed out that if this was true, then Noshiko would be over ninety years old, but Noshiko just smiled wryly and retorted that she was actually closer to nine hundred years old, which stunned both Scott and Kira into speechlessness.
Kira then handed her mother the sword, which Noshiko took from her reverently and carried over to Ken's desk; while she did so, she explained that the katana's blade had shattered the last time it was used, which was in 1943 against the Nogitsune. Scott quickly figured out that this really had all happened before, and when Kira asked where the Nogitsune came from, Noshiko reluctantly admitted that the last time he was free, he was at the Oak Creek Internment Camp not far from Beacon Hills. Scott scoffed when he realized that Ken had lied to Allison Argent and Isaac Lahey when they had asked him about the camp several days earlier, but Ken simply stated that Allison's family had such a long history of violence that he wasn't sure if she could be trusted. He then admitted that there was, in fact, a camp at Oak Creek, and Noshiko interrupted to bitterly inform them that the camp's existence was covered up by the United States government.
Ken went on to explain that he researched the camp during his graduate school days as his passion project, which is what caused him to meet Noshiko in the first place, leading the two to bond over their shared knowledge and interest in the event. When Kira asked where the Nogitsune came from, Noshiko, still beating herself up over her role in its original appearance on Earth, replied, "Isn't it obvious yet? It came from me." Noshiko then went on to explain the story of how the Nogitsune was summoned to Camp Oak Creek in flashbacks, and in the present day, she urged Kira to help her reassemble the katana blade, stating that time was running out, and this was a task that needed to be completed before nightfall. However, Kira stubbornly refused to assist her mother in this activity until she was honest with her and Scott and told them everything about the Nogitsune and how to fight it. Ken, agreeing with their daughter, insisted that Noshiko needed to tell them what they needed to know, even after Noshiko argued against Scott's involvement due to the traditional hostility between foxes and wolves-- "But allies, however unlikely, should be welcomed-- especially in times of war."
Noshiko continued her story about her time at Camp Oak Creek during the Japanese internment, but Kira was quickly annoyed by the fact that her mother was dwelling more on her romance with Corporal Rhys and less about what they need to know to defeat the Nogitsune and save Stiles. Noshiko attempted to argue that she was getting there, but Scott knew better and called her out for stalling, guessing that the Oni she summoned would start hunting Void Stiles again when the sun went down. When Noshiko insisted that Stiles was gone forever and that Scott needed to make peace with that, Scott argued that it was obvious she didn't know this for sure before asking if, since Noshiko was able to summon the Oni, if she was also capable of calling them off. Kira jumped into the argument and reminded her mother that it wasn't Stiles' fault that he was in this situation, but Noshiko stood her ground, stating, "Stiles may be your best friend, he may be like a brother to you... but he is Nogitsune now. He is void!" Scott once again asked if she could call them off, but Noshiko made it clear that when he and Kira heard the rest of the story, they wouldn't want her to do so.
The story turned to when Noshiko and Rhys, while having a romantic interlude hidden in the garage with the military vehicles, overheard two of the MPs, Merrick and Hayes, colluding suspiciously with the camp's doctor, Dr. Liston. In the present, Noshiko, so overwhelmed by the story, cut her hand when she squeezed a shard of the broken katana blade too hard and began bleeding on the desk, not even noticing the injury until Ken pointed it out. Kira and Scott were initially concerned when they saw the wound on her palm, but Noshiko simply smiled weakly as she wiped her hand with a tissue, revealing that her cut had already healed, just like most shapeshifters. She explained that this was a gift that Kira would soon learn and that a benefit of it was that she would never get sick, which most humans were not blessed with, as proven at Camp Oak Creek, where a pneumonia epidemic swept through the population.
In flashbacks, Rhys and Noshiko figured out that Merrick, Hayes, and Dr. Liston were stealing medications meant for the internees and selling them on the black market for profit, which led to the pneumonia epidemic due to the camp not having enough of the antibiotic needed to treat all the patients who were suffering from the illness. It was this revelation that caused a riot at the camp that resulted in the deaths of dozens of Japanese internees, as well as Rhys, who was hit with a Molotov cocktail and later died from his burns. Noshiko was shot dozens of times but managed to survive, though her heartbeat had slowed enough to the point where the soldiers thought she was dead and loaded her up on the truck with the other deceased campers.
Noshiko continued to explain that the Nogitsune was ultimately summoned to earth when she became overwhelmed with anger and fury that Rhys and all of her friends and peers had been killed and the camp's actions were about to be covered up. Knowing that inaction would lead to her death, as she was still too weak to fight back against the soldiers, Noshiko prayed to her Kitsune ancestors for kitsune-tsuki, or possession by a fox spirit, believing that a Nogitsune who fed on chaos, strife, and pain would imbue her body with the power she needed to heal and fight against all those involved in the deaths of her countrymen as well as the incoming cover-up. Unfortunately for Noshiko and the rest of the area, the Nogitsune, having a dark sense of humor, decided to possess Rhys' corpse instead of Noshiko's body and proceeded to go on a killing spree that led to the deaths of all of the survivors of the riots, Japanese-American and American alike.
The story ended with Noshiko explaining that she, with the help of her friend Satomi Ito, a bitten Werewolf, managed to revert the Nogitsune to its fly form, trap it in a jar, and bury it in the roots of the Nemeton, whose magic imprisoned it for nearly seventy years. In the present, the two Kitsune ended up reassembling the sword, and Scott watched in shock and awe as Noshiko helped Kira use her foxfire to repair the blade, returning it to its original form as though it had never broken in the first place. Noshiko then gifted the sword to Kira, stating that it contained what was left of her power and would give her balance so that she could do what Noshiko couldn't-- slay the Nogitsune, maybe with the help of a wolf like Scott as she was helped by Satomi.
Scott was not impressed or amused by the ending of this story and retorted that she hadn't told them anything of use. Noshiko disagreed and replied, "You want to save Stiles? Kill him." Scott was appalled when he saw that Ken agreed with her, but Ken was under the impression that sometimes history really did repeat itself. Scott insisted that this was only the case if you didn't learn from it and maintained that there had to be a way to save Stiles and that they were going to find it, with Kira nodding in agreement. Just then, Scott received a text message from Allison Argent urging him to go to Derek's loft where they had located Void Stiles, and the two left together to help their friends, with Kira now in possession of the katana she had just helped repair. Ken voiced his reservations about turning children like Kira, Scott, and the rest of their friends into killers, but Noshiko assured him that they played their part long before their return to Beacon Hills, as it was the surrogate sacrifice ritual performed by Allison, Scott and Stiles that reawakened the Nemeton and freed the Nogitsune from its prison.
In De-Void, Scott and Kira sped to Derek's loft on Scott's motorbike after getting a text from Allison urging them to meet them there, as they thought they had found Void Stiles. However, by the time they arrived, they found Allison, Argent, Stilinski, and Derek (the latter of whom sustained a bad sword gash on the back of his left shoulder) recovering from a battle with the Oni that resulted in Void Stiles being able to slip away in the chaos, causing the Oni to vanish and leaving them right back where they started.
A short time later, Scott and Kira went to the McCall House to get some much-needed rest. Kira thanked Scott for letting her stay at his house, as she didn't feel comfortable going home after all of the revelations about her parents she had learned earlier in the day. Scott offered her a t-shirt to sleep in, which Kira declined, before he stated that Kira could sleep in his bed, and that he would sleep in the armchair next to it. Feeling slightly awkward, Kira curled up on the side of the bed closest to the chair and laid on her side so she could face Scott, who got settled in the armchair; when Scott asked her if she was okay, Kira nodded silently, so Scott felt comfortable enough to close his eyes and try to go to sleep.
Kira remained awake, however, and seemed to be giving something a great deal of thought before she finally called out to Scott, who opened his eyes sleepily. She quietly stated that she didn't want him to sleep in the chair, but Scott assumed she was just being polite and assured her that he was fine, as he had spent plenty of nights sleeping in this chair in the past. Just as he was about to close his eyes again, Kira piped up, "Please don't sleep in the chair," causing Scott to realize that Kira actually wanted to lay in bed with him.
She scooted over so that Scott could lay down beside her, and the two of them faced each other and looked at each other for a long moment before Kira, seeing Scott's worried expression, reassured him that they were going to save Stiles, and that they would figure everything out. This seemed to bring Scott some comfort, and he smiled before gently kissing Kira on the lips. When they pulled away, Kira smiled and turned onto her other side so that she could be the "little spoon," and the two closed their eyes and tried to get some sleep, not noticing that one of the Nogitsune's flies were buzzing outside of Scott's closed bedroom window right behind their heads.
The next morning, Scott and Kira set off on separate tasks, with Kira assisting Allison when it became clear that her boyfriend Isaac Lahey had been infected with a Nogitsune fly and was trying to kill the also-infected twins Ethan and Aiden at the Beacon Hills High School, while Scott was concerned with trying to figure out a way to give Stiles control over his body back when Void Stiles' unconscious body was found in a parking lot by Lydia during a Banshee fugue state.
