The relationship between Beta Werewolf Liam Dunbar and Banshee Lydia Martin.

Lydia and Liam technically first met in Season 4's The Benefactor, after the True Alpha Werewolf and Lydia's close friend Scott McCall bit and turned Liam into his first Beta Werewolf to save his life from the Wendigo Sean Walcott.

At Lydia's suggestion, Kira Yukimura, Scott's girlfriend and Lydia's best friend, tricked Liam into coming with her to the Martin Family lakehouse, under the guise of inviting him to a party there, when, in reality, she actually brought him there for a supernatural "intervention" involving all members of the McCall Pack to get him to accept his new life as a Werewolf.

However, Liam, with his preexisting anger issues amplified by the fact that it was his first full moon as a lycanthrope, lost his temper and accused Lydia and the others of being "psychotic nut jobs" before he began transforming into a Werewolf and scratched the house's wooden floors, much to Lydia's displeasure, as her family was in the process of trying to sell the lake house and couldn't allow it to be damaged.

Fortunately, Liam soon came to realize that they were not lying in regards to their supernatural identities, and he began to accept his new Werewolf condition after Scott kindly assured him that he was a Werewolf, not a monster, allowing the young newly turned Beta to develop close friendships with Lydia and the other McCall Pack members.

Meanwhile, the group continued to deal with the Deadpool, a hit-list of all supernaturals living in or near Beacon Hills, with individual bounties on the list ranging from as low as $250,000 to as high as $25,000,000. Lydia was the second-highest valued target worth $20,000,000 due to her powerful Banshee abilities, only outmatched by her Alpha, Scott, who was the highest-valued target worth $25,000,000; conversely, it was initially discovered that Liam was worth $3,000,000 until Derek Hale lost his powers and his bounty of $15,000,000 was added to Liam's, making the young Beta the third highest-valued target at $18,000,000. Thanks to Stiles Stilinski and Malia Tate, the computers that operated the Deadpool were shut down, allowing the pack and the other supernaturals on the list to relax in peace.

In Season 5, Liam and Lydia's relationship seemed to have grown stronger, along with Liam's other relationships with his other packmates, particularly his brotherly-bond with Scott and Stiles. Their few months of peace following the events of the Deadpool ended when mutant scientists known as the Dread Doctors arrived in Beacon Hills and began transforming specific teenagers into pseudo-supernatural hybrid creatures known as Chimeras, forcing the pack to face this new threat.

They were initially assisted by Theo Raeken, a recently turned Werewolf and a former classmate of Scott and Stiles' who returned to Beacon Hills with an intention to join their pack, though both Liam and Stiles were skeptical of his motives at first until they both eventually began to trust him. However, unbeknownst to any of them, Theo was actually a part-Werewolf, part-Werecoyote Chimera, the first Chimera to ever survive the transformation and a henchman to his creator, the Dread Doctors.

At the same time, Theo's true plan was revealed—he had made a deal with the Dread Doctors in which he would infiltrate the McCall Pack and prevent them from interfering with the Dread Doctors' plans, and in return, they would help him in his plan to steal Scott's Alpha powers, allowing him to become an Alpha and a real Werewolf, which he had always wanted, not to mention giving him leadership of the pack, who he coveted due to their unique make-up and power.

Due to Theo's machinations, Liam nearly killed Scott after the True Alpha refused to give Liam's then-girlfriend Hayden Romero the Bite as a last-ditch effort to save her from dying of herMercury poisoning, as Liam taking Scott's powers was essential to Theo's plans (as a True Alpha's powers can only be taken by a Beta of his own making), but Liam's best friend Mason Hewitt arrived at the last moment to stop him from killing his own Alpha, leading Theo to kill Scott himself out of anger (though thankfully, Melissa was able to use CPR and the power of the supermoon to bring him back.)

Meanwhile, during all of these events, Lydia had gone into a catatonic state due to Theo having forcefully (and somewhat incorrectly) used the Memory Manipulation ritual to determine the location of the Nemeton, which he used to create his own pack of Chimeras as a consolation prize due to failing his original plan.

In the second half of Season 5B, the relationship between Liam and Lydia was strained, especially after Lydia was taken to Eichen House by her mother Natalie Martin in hopes that they could help her recover. Liam was soon able to fix his relationships with Scott and packmates, joining them in formulating a plan to break Lydia out of Eichen House before she died from the trephination performed on her at the hands of Gabriel Valack, who sought to use her powerful Banshee abilities to figure out the true identity of the Beast of Gevaudan. Although there were many complications, the group succeeded in rescuing Lydia and she reunited with all of her dear friends to help them battle the newly-resurrected Beast, who was wreaking havoc in their town and taking numerous innocent lives.

The pack eventually discovered that Mason was the only truly successful Chimera created by the Dread Doctors and the host for the Beast's spirit, but they discovered this too late, as Mason's body had just transformed into the body of the previous Beast, Sebastien Valet, once the Beast realized who he truly was. Fortunately for them all, Lydia used her Banshee scream in order to call Mason by his given name and free him from the Beast's spirit, allowing Scott and their ally, the Hellhound Jordan Parrish, to kill Sebastien once and for all. Afterward, Kira, with the help of the Skinwalkers, used her magical katana to imprison Theo underground as punishment for his foul deeds.

In Season 6A, Liam was feeling upset that Scott, Stiles, Malia and Lydia would soon graduate from high school and head to their respective colleges, while Lydia was excited by the prospect of going to MIT for mathematics. However, they were all soon distracted by the arrival of the Ghost Riders, who immediately captured Stiles and erased him from reality in hopes that this would prevent the pack from interfering with their plans. Unfortunately for the Ghost Riders, Scott, Malia and Lydia soon realized that someone was missing from their lives and worked together to find a way to bring Stiles and the other erased victims back, while Liam, along with Hayden, Mason and Corey Bryant, helped their friends protect their peers, such as Gwen, from being taken.

Liam, knowing he would soon be taking over as acting Alpha of the pack once Scott and the older members went to college, was so desperate to prove himself capable of protecting the town that he went so far as to release Theo from his prison so he could share information with regards to the Wild Hunt that he had obtained from his time with the Dread Doctors. Together, they stopped the Ghost Rider-empowered Alpha Lƶwenmensch Garrett Douglas from merging Beacon Hills with the Phantom Train Station and watched him become a Ghost Rider.

Three months later, Scott, Malia and Lydia were about to head to college when human citizens of Beacon Hills began joining Tamora Monroe and Gerard Argent's Hunter Army out of fear of the supernaturals inhabiting Beacon Hills; this fear was later revealed to be coming from the Anuk-ite, an ancient shapeshifter previously trapped in the Wild Hunt until it was accidentally freed by Scott, Malia and Lydia during their attempts to get Stiles back in the previous half-season. The army slowly grew in numbers and began murdering numerous supernaturals, including those allied with the McCall Pack, such as Satomi Ito and her entire pack, and even the former Alpha Pack leader Deucalion.

However, the McCall Pack once again managed to emerge victorious in spite of the losses they endured by defeating the Anuk-ite, though Monroe's Army endured due to Monroe herself having escaped, allowing her to recruit more members even despite her partner, Gerard Argent, being killed by his daughter Kate. The pack continued on with their lives, with Scott, Malia, Stiles, and Lydia presumably going to college, and Liam and the other members of the pack in his year graduating high school, all while recruiting orphaned supernaturals to join the pack in order to help in the fight against Monroe's Army. As seen in the end of the series finale, Liam and Lydia remain close friends and packmates who are loyal to each other as well as to the other members of their pack.

In Muted, Liam became entangled with the McCall Pack when Scott, the pack's Alpha, was forced to give Liam the Bite in order to save him from falling off of the Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital during a fight with the Wendigo Sean Walcott, who was trying to eat him.

In The Benefactor, after having learned about Liam being bitten and presumably transforming into a supernatural shapeshifter of some kind, as well Liam being in denial and refusing to listen to Scott's attempts to prepare him for his new life, the McCall Pack gathered in the high school parking lot to discuss their next steps in dealing with this problem, as the Full Moon was that night, which meant Liam being left to his own devices could result in exposure of the supernatural community to the human population, not to mention the threat of harm or death to any human in his vicinity after he transformed.

Since the pack already had a monthly ritual of going to Lydia's grandmother's lake house during full moons to help Malia Tate, who was still struggling to control her transformations now that she was in human form again, they decided to just bring Liam along, leading to the question of how they were going to get him there when he didn't trust Scott or Stiles (thanks to the former's idea to capture him after he bit him and bring him back to the McCall House the previous night). Stiles, not wanting him to murder anyone, suggested they chloroform him and throw him in the lake, a plan which Malia wholeheartedly supported, but Scott, as usual, immediately dismissed any plan that involved killing or kidnapping him.

Lydia then stated that they needed to play it smarter and brought up an obvious solution, which was to tell him they were throwing a party at the lake house and invite him. Stiles was skeptical that Lydia was willing to ask out a freshman, which Lydia informed him was a correct assumption, but she did suggest that, if they were planning on tricking someone, that they should utilize the pack's trickster-- Kira Yukimura, who, as a Kitsune, was known as a "trickster spirit." Kira was not confident in her ability to get Liam to agree to go to the party, but Lydia reminded her that female foxes are known as "vixens," and the rest of the pack assured her that she could do it.

In the school, Kira saw Liam as she was walking down the stairs and tried to catch his attention, but accidentally fell down the steps while she was trying to do so, getting his attention in the opposite way she was intending. However, things ultimately worked out, as Liam rushed over to her to make sure that she was okay, and when she smiled at him and said that she was fine before asking him out to the "party," Liam was smitten and said yes immediately. Unfortunately, the pack didn't take into consideration that Liam was going to tell other people about it, who were going to assume that they, too, could attend the party as well.

Upon arrival to the lake house, Kira walked Liam inside and quickly locked the door behind them, just as Liam realized the only people in the room were members of the pack-- Scott McCall, Malia Tate, Lydia Martin, and Stiles Stilinski. When Liam asked what they were doing, Stiles informed him that they had brought him there because he had a problem, leading Scott to finish his sentence by assuring him that they were the only people that could help. They then went around the room introducing themselves by species, with Liam running through them in order as Werewolf, Werecoyote, Banshee, and "Fox," though Kira corrected him by stating she was a Kitsune, but that "Fox" worked, too.

He then saw the chains on the coffee table and assumed they were for him, though Malia insisted they were actually for her and flashed her ice-blue coyote eyes at him, once again giving Liam an example that he could not refuse as proof of the supernatural (with Scott being transformed when Liam was bitten being the first). Liam asked her how she did that, and Scott insisted that he would learn how to do it himself, but first, he had to get through the full moon, leading Liam to irritably point out that the moon was already out.

Scott took this opportunity to point out that Liam was already starting to feel the transformation, given his attitude, and Liam finally exploded from frustration, calling the pack a bunch of "psychotic nutjobs" and explaining that he was going to leave before threatening anyone who tried to come after him. However, before he could do so, he collapsed to his knees in pain and covered his ears, wondering why no one else could hear what he heard.

Scott, realizing he had been tuning out his enhanced sense of hearing, realized that cars were pulling in, and Lydia, having come to the same conclusion, asked Liam if he told someone about this. Liam, still grimacing in pain, admitted he had told his best friend, Mason Hewitt, arguing that they said it was a party. Upon looking out the window and realizing that Mason had practically invited the entire freshman class of BHHS, the pack began to panic, just as Liam began to transform in earnest, with his eyes glowing gold and his claws and fangs extending.

Seeing that Liam's claws were out and he was digging them into the floorboards, Lydia insisted that they needed to get him off the floors, as her family was trying to sell the house. Scott and Kira took Liam to the boathouse to chain him up, while Stiles and Malia went down into the cellar to do the same for Malia. Lydia, at a loss, asked them what she was supposed to do with the horde of people outside the door, but Stiles just encouraged her to invite them inside by bringing up the fact that she was the best party-thrower at their school.

While Liam and Malia were going through their respective transformations, Lydia was trying to keep the party-goers from ruining the house, and she went upstairs after seeing Mason going up there. She found him in the study and asked him what he was doing there, as the party was downstairs, but Mason replied that he was just looking for Liam. Lydia, trying to be vague, pointed out that "missing freshmen were a little low on her priority list," but Mason retorted that it clearly wasn't so low that she knew he was a freshman.

Having grabbed two glasses of wine she found sitting upstairs, Lydia sighed before lying that she thought she may have seen him downstairs and attempting to usher Mason out, only to spill the red wine on the white carpet. She began to frantically try to rub out the stain with the hem of her sweater, beginning to cry, when Mason apologized for the spill and asked her if the carpet was expensive.

Lydia, crying harder now, admitted that nothing was expensive, which was part of the problem—her family just put the house on the market, and it had to be left without a scratch because it has to be in perfect condition due to needing every penny they can get out of it. Mason, feeling empathy for Lydia, went downstairs to get salt and club soda, assuring her that they would get the stain out. However, as she closed the door behind Mason, she was shocked to find that the room was soundproof, leading her to wonder about her grandmother's reasoning behind the design of the room.
