Orphaned is the sixth episode of Season 4 and the fifty-fourth episode of Teen Wolf.

Synopsis[]

Scott is forced into helping a dangerous enemy. Derek and Malia track an old ally.

Plot[]

As Violet is arrested for her attack on Brett Talbot and Scott,Agent McCall recognizes her as a member of the Orphans, a pair of assassins using their appearance as teenagers to get away with killing high-valued clients. Garrett attacks and poisons Liam with yellow wolfsbane, throws him into a well, and uses him as a hostage to force Scott to help him free Violet from police custody. However, Kate and the Berserkers abducted Violet before they appeared there, and Garrett is killed by one of the Berserkers.

Derek recruits Malia in an attempt to find the pack of the Werewolves who have been killed by the assassins, who are led by Satomi Ito, one of the oldest living Werewolves and an old friend of Kira's mother, Noshiko. Lydia, Stiles and Deputy Parrish go to Eichen House in an attempt to get Meredith Walker's help in finding the last cipher key. However, when they finally speak with her, she refuses and insists that the Benefactor has ordered her not to help them anymore. When Lydia loses control and pushes Meredith too hard, she screams so loud that she causes Lydia's ears to bleed.

Scott and Chris face off against Kate and the Berserkers, but are easily overpowered, and during the fight, Scott discovers that Violet has already been killed. At the last moment, Kate calls off the Berserkers, not wanting to kill her own brother. Derek and Malia find Satomi's pack, only to discover that they are all dead. They also find an injured Braeden, who has been shot and is laying bleeding near the bodies of the dead Werewolves. Liam finally howls as a distress call to Scott, who is able to hear it and uses the sound to find Liam and rescue him from the well.

Lydia deciphers the last part of the list, this time using the code-word "DEREK." The final portion includes Liam, Malia (who is listed as Malia Hale) and Meredith. Deputy Parrish informs Stiles and Lydia that Meredith has committed suicide. Scott and Stiles find the money that Garrett and Violet received from the Benefactor for the murders they committed. Peter offers to teach Kate to control her shift in exchange for her help in regaining his money and power.

Violet is arrested after attempting to kill Scott in I.E.D.
Satomi Ito is mentioned by Peter Hale and sought out by Derek and Malia, the former of whom reveals that Satomi is one of the oldest Werewolves currently alive. She was last seen in flashbacks in The Fox and the Wolf.
- It is also revealed that Demarco Montana, Carrie Hudson, and Brett Talbot belong to Satomi's Pack, a collection of Buddhist Werewolves, which Derek and Peter figured out after recognizing their Buddhist mantra to help them gain control over their transformations-- "Three things cannot long be hidden: the sun, the moon, the truth."
  - Demarco was seen reciting this mantra in The Benefactor.
  - Carrie was seen reciting this mantra in I.E.D..

- He also references the stolen evidence from the Katashi murder case. The stolen evidence (Katashi's silver prosthetic finger containing the Shugendo Scroll and a briefcase with $150,000 in cash) was stolen by the McCall Pack in Season 3B's Echo House. Katashi was murdered by Stiles (while possessed by the Nogitsune) in the same season's Letharia Vulpina.
- Additionally, this marks the second time that Rafael has been seriously injured by a supernatural creature, only to not remember anything about it afterward. The first time this occurred was in Season 3B's Silverfinger, when he was stabbed in the shoulder by one of the Oni and assumed it was simply a mundane human intruder of some kind in a samurai costume.
Brunski appears in this episode. He was last seen in Season 3B's Insatiable.
- He references Sheriff Stilinski's late payments on his Eichen House bills, which were first revealed to be overdue in Season 4's 117.

Scott finds a duffle bag full of Deadpool cash payments in Garrett's gym locker. He had $500,000, which he got from killing Carrie Hudson in I.E.D.
Kate is shown to still be struggling with her Werejaguar transformations, which was first demonstrated in 117.
Chris Argent reunites with his sister Kate for the first time since her death in Season 1's Code Breaker and her return in Season 3's The Divine Move.
The third and final portion of the Deadpool hit-list was decrypted by Lydia and Stiles using the cipher key "DEREK." This is doubly troubling due to the fact that it suggests that Derek could be dying, as first implied by the loss of his powers revealed in I.E.D..
Liam has a flashback to the events after his first full moon in The Benefactor, when Scott showed him the window in the Martin Lake House's boat house that he jumped through after he transformed.
Despite Peter's remarks as early as Season 2's Battlefield and as recently as Season 3B's The Overlooked about being weaker than he used to be following his resurrection in Party Guessed, he demonstrates an exceptional amount of strength (more than even Derek) in this episode, though no explanation for this strength has been given.
- It is possible that when he killed Jennifer Blake on the Nemeton in Lunar Ellipse, he absorbed some of the power she gained from her sacrifices which then subsequently augmented his own powers.
This episode marks the first time that Derek and Malia speak to one another and work with each other since Malia joined the pack. It was first revealed that Malia is Peter's daughter in Letharia Vulpina, though it remains unknown if Derek is aware of this fact.
Jordan Parrish learns that he is on the Deadpool hit-list in this episode, though he does not learn why he is on it. His name was revealed to be on the list in I.E.D., and he will learn why he is on it in Perishable.
Coach Finstock is seen to be seriously ill in this episode, which will be delved into further in Weaponized.
Kate and Peter form an alliance in this episode, where Peter offers to teach her control so she can return to her family and retake her place as a Hunter, and in return, Kate will help him get back the $117 million in bearer bonds stolen from him in 117 and aid him in his plan to attain more power.

Trivia[]

The title refers to Garrett and Violet, who are assassins known as The Orphans due to having dead parents and the fact that they look like teenagers. They also both meet their ends in this episode.
It is revealed by Derek Hale in this episode that some Werewolves (in this case, the members of Satomi's Pack, among others) have such a mastery and control over their bodies that they can actually inhibit their scent, preventing them from being tracked by supernaturals with supernatural senses of smell or identified as a Werewolf by said supernatural creatures.
