Scott: "I know this sounds crazy, but I think I had a best friend. And I think he was out here with me that night."
Malia: "It doesn't sound crazy. I know that someone chained me up, and I think they wanted me to stay human."
Lydia: "I came to school this morning, and I was sure I was supposed to meet someone... But I couldn't remember who it was supposed to be. I have been looking for them all day. Whoever it is... I think I loved him."
Scott, Malia, and Lydia about Stiles Stilinski in Superposition

The relationship between True Alpha Werewolf Scott McCall, Beta Werecoyote Malia Tate, and Banshee Lydia Martin.

The friendship between Scott, Malia, and Lydia began at the end of Season 3B, when Malia, who had just rejoined the human world after eight years of living as a coyote in the Beacon Hills Preserve, became a member of the McCall Pack. Their friendship developed over the seasons but became incredibly close in Season 6. In the first half of the season, following Stiles' capture by the Ghost Riders of the Wild Hunt and his subsequent erasure from reality, Scott, Malia, and Lydia became closer in his absence as the three bonded in their efforts to figure out the gaps in their memories.

Together, the three fought to regain their lost memories and bring Stiles back from the Phantom Train Station, a feat they successfully completed in the season finale. In the second half of Season 6, the three put their post-high school plans on hold after Lydia had a premonition that indicated a Anuk-ite terrible threat had arrived in Beacon Hills as a result of the rift she, Scott, and Malia opened to bring Stiles and the rest of the town back from the Phantom Train Station. The three debated whether or not to inform Stiles, who was in the midst of his internship with the FBI and eventually decided to allow him to live out his dream while they tried to figure out how to protect their hometown.

The three, with help from the other members of the McCall Pack and their allies, then began to fight a war on two fronts: figuring out how to defeat the ancient Anuk-ite, an ancient, powerful shapeshifter who thrives and feeds on fear and who escaped from the Wild Hunt; and protecting the supernatural community from the army of Hunters led by Gerard Argent and Tamora Monroe, who were both influenced by and taking advantage of the fear amplified by the Anuk-ite. Despite this overwhelming confluence of factors working against them, Scott, Malia and Lydia successfully defeated both the Anuk-ite and Gerard, freeing the town from their malevolent influences and allowing the human and supernatural communities to bind together and fight for each other. The three were last seen in Tennessee with Derek Hale, Liam Dunbar, and Chris Argent, where they have been recruiting young, orphaned supernatural creatures to their pack in hopes of protecting them from Monroe's growing Hunter army.

This trio is also known as Scalydia or McMarte by fans.

Throughout Teen Wolf[]

In More Bad Than Good, Scott McCall and Lydia Martin, along with their friends Allison Argent, Stiles Stilinski, and Isaac Lahey, set off to save Malia Tate, who was still in her full-coyote form in the Beacon Hills Preserve, from her adoptive father, Henry Tate, who believed her to be the coyote who killed his daughters and wife. While Lydia and Stiles worked to figure out what significance the doll at the car crash scene meant to Malia, Scott set off to use his Alpha Roar to force Malia to shift back, a plan that was ultimately successful in returning Malia to the human world where she belonged.

In The Divine Move, Malia registered into Beacon Hills High School, sharing a friendly glance with Lydia, and was later seen at Scott's house as he helped her control her shift. It has been implied that between the end of The Divine Move and the beginning of Season 4, Malia Tate became a member of the McCall Pack, and spent at least one full moon with Lydia Martin and Scott McCall (along with Stiles Stilinski and Kira Yukimura) at the Martin Family lake house.

In The Dark Moon, Scott, Malia, and Lydia (along with Stiles and Kira) traveled to Mexico with the intent of finding and rescuing Derek Hale, who had been taken hostage by Kate Argent, though they initially believed that the Calavera Family of Werewolf Hunters were holding him captive instead. The three then split up, with Scott setting off on his own to observe at the Calavera's club, Malia joining Kira on the dance floor to keep an eye on the crowd, and Lydia partnering up with Stiles in order to confront Araya Calavera directly.

Unfortunately, things went awry, and all of them (with the exception of Lydia, who was being held by Araya herself) were captured and thrown into their holding cell. All five of them were ultimately released by Araya in hopes that they would have better luck locating Derek and Kate than her Hunters did. In another circumstance in bad luck, the trio was ultimately separated when the Jeep broke down on the way to La Iglesia, causing Scott to have to leave with Braeden to try to save Derek while Lydia and Malia stayed behind with Stiles to fix the Jeep and follow after them.

In 117, Lydia, who had been hanging out with Kira Yukimura, immediately called Scott, who was with Malia and Peter, to inform them of the dead body they had found at a gas station who had been mauled to death by Kate Argent.

Believing Scott, Malia, and Peter had run into trouble with Kate and her Berserkers, Lydia, Kira, and Stiles rushed to the high school to help them fight against their foes, only to find Kate calling off her Berserkers following the theft of $117 million in bearer bonds being stolen by The Benefactor's henchman from Peter's inheritance in the Hale Vault.

Trivia[]

  • Scott, Malia, and Lydia have become best friends over the seasons, especially after Stiles Stilinski was captured by the Ghost Riders, as their attempts to bring him back to the real world made them grow even closer to one another than they were before. This bond grew even stronger in the second half of Season 6, when Stiles was in Virginia during his internship with the FBI.
  • Scott, Malia, and Lydia are also the three people who are closest to Stiles, aside from his father, Noah Stilinski.
  • This trio is unique, as each member is not the same supernatural species as the other.
